My favorite Stephen King books were probably The Shining and The Dark Half. It's been a while since I read anything by him, though. Maybe I'll check out a copy of what you just read at some point.

I already have a hobby that involves expensive purchases and shelf space in gaming. I’m also very unlikely to ever reread a book. Libby has done wonderful things for my reading, and I live two blocks from my local library so it’s very easy for me to pick up books that they don’t have in e format yet. I do buy the books in the Witcher and Expanse series as I read them because I mostly read them in between other books so having a due date on them wouldn’t work for me.

Kings material is great whether it’s horror or not. Enjoy, welcome to being one of his new Constant Readers

If you want horror, you need to read Pet Cemetary and Cujo. I have read all his stuff and seen all the movies. I tried to watch pet cemetery but that turned into a big NOPE really quick.

My wife and i started a Covid book club just the two of us back in 2020 and haven't stopped. We choose a book to read, make an easy reading schedule (20-30 pages a day usually. We both read other things too). Then, when we have both read that day, we discuss, predict, etc. It's wonderful!

I think it's a classic case of "meh/okay author, unbearable fandom". Some things can only get shoved so many times in your face before your indifference turns to frustration and some fans can be very aggravating without realizing it. I never read anything by Colleen Hoover because her books aren't what I enjoy, but you see her everywhere and people who love her can get quite passionate and, from what I have seen, are quick to jump to "well, if you don't like it, you obviously are boring/are an elitist/hate stuff made by and for women". So I don't think it's a problem with her content and more with the way it is publicized.

That's the problem with many divisive authors/books.

Recommend me some good hard sci-fi. Not in the background either, I want it to be full of long rambling explanations about how exactly things work. I'm a fan of Peter Watts, Greg Egan, and Charles Stross. If you're familiar with that last author, think along those lines except with more nuanced (better) characters. I've read The Expanse, so don't bother with that one.

Green Mile is one of King's better storys, i really enjoyed it. While it has some horrible scenes, i found pet semetary & Misery much more gruesome. Green Mile is however kind of moving, if you know what i mean, and f*** Percy

Whenever any writer becomes as popular and as inescapable as she has, there is always lashback.

I have never read her books because she writes in a genre I don't care for, but if you go to any bookstore, she is truly everywhere. That can get rather abrasive and provoke reactions.

The Green Mile isn't scary. I don't mean that like I'm a hardo who just wasn't scared.
It's just not a horror story. It's more of a tragedy with a little bit of the supernatural. You will cry though.
