Every time I feel anxiety about having and constantly adding to my endless TBR list, I stop and realize it’s a good problem to have. I admit I listen to too many podcasts and add any interesting recommendations to by TBR in my Notes app. I also get a lot of good recommendations here.

I have one book by Hemingway which is The Garden of Eden, but I haven't finished it yet. I read sort of slowly these days. I might collect more Hemingway eventually, however, the next book I plan to order is going to be a memoir by the guy from Xiu Xiu. He's not charging much for it and it might already be sold out, though.

It really is a trip, because there's no way I picked up on some of the subtle things, less of a problem with King. But I read all the Hemingway we had in the house very young, I had NO idea what they were about, but I still loved them.

I just commented about this library kids show I did in school on a different thread, but it's relevant here too! We put on a performance of the Stinky Cheese Man for kids at the library and it was so much fun. It's such a great book, I can't wait till my son is a little older and I can read them to him.

If only internalized misogyny and women hating each other in an effort to make themselves "not like other girls" weren't a thing.

I'm of the opinion that it will never change. It's just a part of the bad side of human nature. Immutable and unmovable

Exactly. People will forgive a lot for a 'pretty face', the same way as they'll blame eagerly at an 'ugly' one.
Sadly we're still living in a world where certain aspects of physical appareance are praised and admired to the point of make a pass for some bad and/or disrespectful behaviour.

Oryx as it was originally written in English. Atwood is also very relevant now.

In the film Goldfinger - I can’t remember if the scene was in the novel because it’s been 50 years (!) since I read it - why does he put Bond on that laser thing instead of just killing him outright? (For that matter, why does he spend the money to come up with that elaborate moving model of Fort Knox to explain his plot to the underworld guys when he’s going to kill them all anyway?)

This really concerns me. My teen is in a relationship with a girl who eats these books up. It was clear early on that she's toxic. To be fair, she's just a kid and it sounds like she might be getting some bad ideas.

Just as an aside. I can’t overstate how annoyed I am that the trailer shows footage of the apocalypse happening. 90% of the experience for me going in was not knowing whether or not the visitors were telling the truth.

Wlw books without trauma? I just want a wlw book where that isn’t the main focus and the characters just happen to be wlw. Does that make sense? I don’t wanna have to read about homophobic people or even parents and queer trauma. It doesn’t have to be pure fluff but just not focused on queer people dealing with homophobia. It can be Turkish or English. I’m also fluent in German but I usually don’t enjoy German books but if it’s a good one I’d still be willing to check it out :)

I don't remember the first time reading it, but I have a memory from middle school and credit it as introducing me to 'weird' fiction. So good!

Stephen King is the man, love his work. Although Green Mile is not horror it's great book worth reading, hope you enjoy it.

I enjoyed the book until the part about >!verity believing her autistic daughter is evil and murdering her!< it felt in very poor taste to me and was not handled in a way that could have justified the plot point
I am leaning team manuscript since I think the letter feels rather contrived and unbelievable. I don’t think the manuscript version makes jeremy (or lowen) a better person so it’s not like it changes much in that way

I got this book as a birthday gift when I was maybe 7 or 8. I have since passed it on to my littles who absolutely love it. Such a solid book!
Edit: found it and read it to the kids because of this. They loved it❤️

I don't think that they're getting hated on by the same groups of people or to the same degree. It's more similar to the hate that Twilight got, which was way out of proportion for the hate it deserved and was primarily because it was a book directed at young women.

'Oryx' would be my choice. The other two sound fine, but Atwood fits my preferences better as a writer.

I have pretty similar thoughts as what you described. I have approximately 50 unread books on my shelf. I wrote all the titles on paper and cut them up and put in a container. Then when it’s time to choose the next book I pull out two and choose one.
