>People consider CoHo to be a writer for people who don't read books
similar to how Rupi Kaur is a poet for people who don't read poetry.

it is not complicated. They are far and away the bestselling fiction in the country right now, and yet many people think they're not good. Hence, they are divisive.

I love this. I think I’ll start doing it with movies and tv shows too!

I loved this book and I told my younger coworkers the ugly gist of the ugly duckling story and they looked at me and one of them said "now I get your sense of humor". He really was just an ugly duck. Iconic.

Yeah, I get what you're saying.
Although I really think that at least some degree of inclusion has been achieved. It's obviously partial, so of course it's a long road we have to go yet, and as you say it's more than likely than we never reach that point. But at least, despite our deepest human flaws and sometimes cruel nature I choose to see at least some tiny bit of achievement towards a more equal view between us.
Is it enough? Of course not. Do we need to make improvements? Yes, huge ones, but I think there is people aiming with good intentions towards it

Do you think you could talk with your kid about that realationship? If it was obvious early on that she's toxic I'd be concerned as well. Probably talking about what a healthy relationship looks like and how to recognise when you're being mistreated would be a good start.

I struggle with book choosing anxiety as well! I've recently started using Libby (through my library) as an online reader, and I've found that having a 21-day loan period and a set number (I think 10 or 15) books I can check out at once has helped me to feel less overwhelmed with selecting books. I tend to pick 3-5 books at a time, and only "check out" new books once I'm done with those.
In terms of choosing books in general though, it's always a hard one. There are SO many good books out there, and never enough time! But it's helped me a bit to prioritize whatever book excites me most in that very moment, and accepting that it's okay to leave the others for another time, or never read them if other books catch my eye more.

I’m going through something similar right now; I’ve gotten three or four new books just this week, including classics I haven’t read yet (pride and prejudice, picture of Dorian grey, etc.) and I’m like 30 pages into all of them 🫣 I want to read them all at once lol!

My son loved that book and took it to school in second grade for "share your favorite book day". The teacher wouldn't let him share it because "we don't say that word here."

I’m looking for monthly book subscription recommendations!
I love fantasy and dark romance and I live in EU. I know about Fairyloot and Illumicrate but I’m open to others. If you say fairyloot which one would you recommend based on the genres mentioned above: YA or adult?

Agree completely. if people like her, good for them. They should be able to enjoy her books.
But I tried to read a couple chapters of one of her books and it truly gave 50 shades a run for it’s money on worst writing I’ve ever seen.

A person with notes wouldn't be unusual in my book club. We often read quotes or look up author information during the discussion.
There's a bit of structure to it. We open by saying the rules if there are new people (be respectful and stay on topic). We may decide on next month's book, if not already selected. We speak in any order; it's a group discussion. During this time we order food. About an hour in, we close by each giving it a rating. Our food arrives, and discussion is opened up to anything.
I'm going to a 2nd book club this month, in person. Curious how it'll be different.

I’d just assume Nasa assumed a minimum length.

Discussion is the goal
Do not post shallow content. All posts must be directly book related, informative, and discussion focused

Never gonna happen. Think about it. Even as far back as the story of Sampson in the bible. He's described basically as tall dark handsome and strong. The paradigm for men hasn't shifted in over 3000 years of civilization since then. I have no hope it'll ever change. Inclusivity of physical appearance is a myth sold by people who still believe Star Trek is a legit future

It's only as formal as you make it tbh, I run a Marxist one with some of my friends and it's generally a pretty casual affair, we bring snacks, make jokes, help one another, and generally have a great time

Yes, I suppose it is. But it's interesting to think that maybe at some future point our most popular parameters to define 'good' or 'bad' looking will change.
Subjectively every one has some type of filter to make personal appreciations about external features of our own body and that of others, but perhaps as time goes by we can at some point reach a more 'plain' or inclusive paradigm.

When I used to read on Kindle, I would read in order of purchase. With physical books, I take a quick glance and just pick within 5 or 10 seconds! I think you’re taking it quite seriously, reading is supposed to be fun so make the choosing of next reads fun too!

Why would anyone try to find quotes to give you when you clearly are more focused on your own inimitable prose?
