There are lots of kinds of goals. Reading a specific amount per day is a good one for people who want to get into the habit. But a goal can be anything, I have a goal to DNF books without guilt if I'm not enjoying them. Even when I'm trying to learn something new, I know that there are many books on the topic and if I find one that I'm struggling to finish, I'm happy to quit it and find another that may be better for me.

I wonder about thjs too. For reference I read romance, YA and genre fiction. I thought her book was āaggressively fineā. It Ends With Us didnāt seem like it glorified anything. I donāt get all the hate but I also really donāt get all the hype ??? 𤪠I think itās all the hype that annoys people ?
This is about her books I donāt really know much about her as a person

Your edit is not enough, as it is not your experience. Have you not listened to any audiobooks that ruined the experience for you?

Stephanie Meyer got a lot of hate back in the day as well, maybe even more than Colleen Hoover tbh

The book club Iām in is also a meetup book club. It meets generally twice a month.
We need at a place that serves alcohol but thereās no requirement to order anything. The host would go around the table and have folks introduce themselves and say what they think of the book. Some folks have notes to refer to but folks arenāt giving a lecture on the book. Once everyone has spoken, the floor opens to general discussion about the book. The host has backup questions if the discussion dies down.
Towards the end, there may be non-book related talk as the meeting winds down.
Itās okay not to like a book and even not finish them.
Just show up and see what happens. The only thing you shouldnāt do is sign up and not show up if there are limited spots. That would prevent somebody on the waiting list from going.

I enjoy reading cozy mystery books that feature a book club exactly like this.
Pretty much everything written by Ellery Adams.

Reply to How can people read This Side of Paradise? by Pfacejones
For the age that Fitzgerald wrote this book at, itās a marvellous display of a burgeoning young writer. Itās a very sophisticated novel, one thatās meant to capture the essence of a generation. I found it very beautiful to read. Try to understand Amoryās perception, and the outlook of others of his generation of that time period. They were part of a disillusionment and loss of purpose that people had for a long time before. He might not be your cup of tea however, and thatās fine, his writings not for everyone.

I just recently read Normal People by Sally Rooney. I am interested in finding some books somewhat in this genre(romance I guess), a book I'll be glued to, invested with the characters, and at the edge of my seat.

Knowing literally nothing about this author or her books and just observing, I get a lot of āpumpkin spiced latteā vibes.
People just like to shit on things that many women collectively have stated that they enjoy.

My friend wanted to read āCall Me By Your Nameā but the audiobook is narrated by Armie Hammer and that was a big turn-off for her.

This book and Captain Underpants inspired me to write stories with my friends. We had a whole shared universe of offbeat kid humor. This brings back some elementary school memories.

I understand exactly what you mean. You expect people to never voice a bad word about everything you enjoy, because it makes you feel bad. What part of that am I not understanding? š

Confederacy of Dunces. Kennedy. If you havenāt read it find a copy because it is utterly hilarious vi tried to listen to audible version and very heart and soul of the book was gone. I said find a copy because itās out of print I believe. The backstory of this book is so interesting and appropriate.
