All I see are ads on mine before I unlock it... afterwards, I guess there are ads for other books on the kindle store part. I don't have a problem with it. Maybe they are worse on the new kindle? I'm not sure.

Unfortunately, support in the United States wasn't limited to Facists and Nazi sympathizers--there were prominent Progressive figures that supported it back then too.

as it always has.
Highlighter and notepad with pencil.
Underline the important parts, use the additional notepad.
Then read again. end.

If you think you'd enjoy a lighthearted comedy take on the subject, try John Scalzi's Agent to the Stars.

Nah, you can use all kinds of books, depending on the format. You can email them to your Kindle or transfer via USB.

Also, it was part of the philosophy espoused by Dickens that permeates his work, that if people would just be kind to each other, treat each other with affection and justice, society would function decently. He never worked/advocated for structural reform despite his clear campaigning against the horrors of the age. He wanted social reformation by individual reform. See -A Christmas Carol.

Personally, I read my ebooks on my phone. I prefer the smaller screen size for one handed reading. It's also cheaper because I don't need another device, plus I usually have my phone with me so I always have my books.
One thing that you might want to test is to see if the ads disappear if you turn off wifi. That's how many other ad supported apps work, and it changes the question a bit. There are certain apps that won't even work on my cheap phone if I have wifi on because the ads consume too much processing power.
There are a few select apps that I have paid money for. I've probably bought 6 in the past decade, for something like $2-5 each. That's remarkably cheap, all things considered. I haven't regretted any of them. Sometimes it's worth paying to get rid of the ads if you take that perspective.

With Kindle you have to get Amazon books only. I have a bunch of unread Ebooks on my computer that I can't upload into Kindle. Annoying limitation.

I don't care for westerns either, as a rule, but Lonesome Dove is the exception. Everything Larry McMurtry wrote was surprisingly engaging and affecting, even if the subject matter didn't initially seem like my cup of tea. He has a way of luring you in with his characters. I sort of consider him the John Irving of the southwest.

It's not a bother honestly but just order the ad version and then when you have it, chat with customer service and ask them to remove. They'll generally do it for free. They might say there's a $20 charge for it but then say it was free anyway. That's how it used to be at least.

The paperback italian Lord of the Rings covers have recently been changed to show an image from the new RoP series on Prime.
Not exactly a sticker, but man are they fucked up looking. What sort of book cover designer or marketing person thinks that that looks okay!
No book needs a sticker/image from a series.

Try the novellas and short stories in Fire Watch by Connie Willis and The Empress of Mars by Kage Baker, or honestly any of their short story collections, all of which are exquisite.
