A friend of mine does it, but she practiced first on used/ruined/didntcarefor books because with spray paint a lot is about distance and pressure on the valve! If you find some 2 or 5 bucks books that you don't care if you ruined start with those to see what distance and pressure to apply and then you can do it to other books knowing you won't ruin them.

The text is peppered with footnotes which, although almost by defintiion are not vital to the story, do neverthelesss add interest. IDK how audiobooks deal with them, but they may be easier with an eBook.

I was supposing since OP is reading it in college that the professor is explaining some of that history in class... if the professors don't, American students have my deepest admiration tbh because how is anyone supposed to understand Dante who wrote about his contemporary history without... a lecture on his contemporary history...?

I, um, collected quite a few… not sure if that’s a success or just hoarding.

I’m rereading it this year for the first time since I was 16 in the early 80s. It was my favorite book, I’m a bit reluctant about it holding up, but I’m hoping it’s still a masterpiece to me.

I often wonder if Stephen King got his inspiration for Percy from the Green Mile from that guy. They're really similar and trigger that same visceral hate.

The only book my mum had ever enjoyed reading was "Little Women" (she's in her 70s btw). I think that she was genuinely put off from reading when she was at school because of the book choices. Anyway, one holiday I had "Of Mice and Men" with me and was reading it. We're at a pool and there's nothing to do (this was before mobile phones) so she picks up the book and figures why not? Cue my mum sobbing next to the pool and then being utterly devastated at dinner that night. "Why couldn't he just take Lenny and run?" She prefers sudoku for her relaxing time now.

My brain will not allow me to conceptualize a person with that name existing during any other time period than the 18th century. I don’t know why, it’s just got such a colonial ring to it.

Check out the version that was made in 1992 with Gary Sinise and John Malkovitch. It's a very good adaption, and I use it to lure non-readers to Steinbeck.

If it's a self-published book, it's possible there was no editor for it. Because from what you've described - all those things would've been caught by one. I work in a small publishing company and we have not only an editor for each book, but before we send it to print, we have it double checked by a proofreader.

The answer is very simple: do what the owner of the body wishes. Since the owner is dead, the ownership passes to the next of kin. Now it is their body and they can do with it what they want.
Which is probably to fulfil the dead person’s wishes.

I'm definitely thinking about reading the graphic novel adaptation at some point too. From the few pages i've seen the artstyle seems beautiful💖
