Absolutely agree, OP. I've read all three and loved each one.

I tried The Charity Shop Detective Agency by Peter Boland and it was...OK. I've just got the second book in The Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood (of Death in Paradise fame) and I'm looking forward to that.

Eta: Forgot to mention Murder Before Evensong by Reverend Richard Coles. That wasn't too bad for a first try.

Definitely feels like Richard Osman refined the sense of humour in the second book as I've laughed out loud more often. First two are those enjoyable one day reads, but haven't read the third yet.

Also he's announced a fourth one, even though I think he had initially said there were only going to be three and so cries in book wishlist

No one should give you actual hate that you haven't read something. Teasing sure but not actual hate.

I didn't read the books till about the fifth movie was out? My uncle gave me the last book for my birthday so I got the others and read them. I like the movies, they aren't like a confort thing for me but I still like them and have all on DVD.

It honestly depends on how nit-picky you are on adaptions. If you focus on the tiniest thing it might change your opinion on them, then yeah I'd recommend not reading if you love the movies. But if you're more laid back and don't mind some deviations, some are pretty major, not enough to change the story but enough that it would have been cool if they could have kept.

Hi friend! I watched the movies as they came out and finally decided to take the plunge and read the books in November of 2021.

YMMV, but for me, I didn’t lose any of the love for the movies. The nostalgia tied to them is unbeatable, and I would say my love for them even grew after reading the books. I’m not super deep in the fandom so I’m not very familiar with fan theories or opinions, but I thought the movies mostly held up to the books. Some of the depictions were not entirely accurate — Hermione was more of a tough broad in the books — but it didn’t make me like them less.

Hope that helps and wishing you well in your reading journey! Have courage!

Tam Lin but is marketed as fantasy with fair folk. 95 percent of the book is an extremely mundane and idealistic story of a young womans university experience. The book has dorms and dining halls, classes and homework, dates and adventures. It also has a wealth of literary quotes that I thoroughly enjoyed feeling out with. But someone looking for fantasy adventure is going to be deeply disappointed until the last section of the book when the fantasy appears and is then quickly resolved. I enjoyed the book, but it barely matched what it claimed to be.
