For those who have access to Hoopla through their public library, there’s a great eAudiobook version that’s a great rendition with multiple narrators.

Well because we flooded we had dehumidifiers all over our house to remove moisture so I set it out in our house near one to dry out. Once it was dry I compressed it under something heavy to help it lie flat. It’s a linen bound hardback? Maybe not linen exactly but some sort of fabric hard cover?
We took it as a sign, because we were obviously devastated that we lost everything, so for that to be laying there clean and it such good condition was crazy.

Oops. Serves me right for correcting you when I hadn't even recalled Dame Judi was in the movie!

I think Jack Edwards recommended it in one of his videos. And since then it's on my Tbr. I'm so excited to read it!
Here, I found it :D : https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxksCUAje0EZ1n6LJOki-buoN42Yd2ZstH

I just finished that book. Definitely worth the time and effort. Having worked with damaged kids for over 25 years, the story isn’t too far-fetched, especially for those in the system, like Oliver.

After knowing about this book since the 1980s I finally read it last year and gave it five stars, just phenomenal. I read the followup, which was quite good too. Last year’s Love & Saffron is fiction, but with quite a similar feel to it.

I loved both the book and the film, definitely one of my favourites despite the gentle story.

Dench is Nora. I emphasized the cast members I recognized.

Been recommending this book for years; this is a quiet, subtle gem, and the charm of it, is its sincerity and warmth.
The movie is absolutely true to the book, though it's Anne Bancroft, not Judi Dench - Hopkins is wonderful in it.

Clarissa abridged and unabridged
I recently found Clarissa by Samuel Richardson a Modern Library edition from 1950.
I want to read it but as I was logging it , to shelf it, I noticed online has it listed as an abridged version. It doesn’t have its dust jacket but inside I don’t see anywhere that confirms or contradicts this.
I would like to know which version this is to know if I’m reading the complete story or not. If anyone knows , it would be very much appreciated help & if more information is needed please let me know. Thanks!

I found a stark spare unadorned beauty in this book. Definitely not for everyone, but I thought someone here might appreciate it.

Tablet vs EReader | Asking for advice! I've been reading on my phone since my tablet died years ago, and my ereader surrendered way before that. Now I'm interested in buying a new eReader since there's now a lot of choices compared to years prior. But I'm also wondering if buying options is still limited to its brand?
I primarily used Kobo, Google books and Kindle. I also have apps for manga/manhwa. Is there an eReader that will enable me to have access to all? Or am I dreaming and tablet is still my best choice? In that case, which tablet is best if I'm going to use it primarily for reading? Battery life was a problem and overheating with my ancient galaxy tab.
I need to start organizing my digital library so I can get started on my reading this year! Thanks!

My mother is both an Anglophile and a bibliophile, so the book and movie is one of her all time favorites. I appreciate the relationship they grow together and how it's never romantic or sexualized. I totally understand how this isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but it is an amazing work.

I tried to communicate clearly that it is a very quiet story where not much happens beyond the development of the relationship. I also loved a Man Called Ove.
Edit, tastes vary. Some people like bird watching or knitting, others may prefer roller coasters or bungie jumping. Some like all of the above.

It was a best-seller for a while. Very appealing to people who collect old books. There's also a sequel, The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street, where Helene finally gets to visit London, sees where Marks & Co. used to be, and meets Frank's family. Anne Bancroft plays Helene in the film, which I love.

I don't understand why this book is so popular. 🤷 Maybe I went in with too high of expectations, since everyone raves about it.
I found it pretty meh.

This is one of those (audio)books I rented from Libby on the spur of the moment because it happened to be available, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it and how thought-provoking it was. I read it around the time that I was also working a side job at a nursing home, so all of that combined made for an intriguing read.

My friend and I stumbled upon the creepy Animal Farm cartoon, so I had to read the book, and later we named our Biology lab fetal pig Napoleon.

Thanks for your help though. Actually, it's just something for my friend and me to use... it takes two people to be a club right? lol

At a time when I was trying to come to terms with my place in the world I ran into this quote at the start of a book. It still rings so true.
“We do not receive wisdom, we must discover it for ourselves, after a journey through the wilderness which no one else can make for us, which no one can spare us, for our wisdom is the point of view from which we come at last to regard the world.” Marcel Proust
