This is a book about how to be a better salesman, but the author applied is own rules to the title and content. A honnest title would be less selling : How to better interact in order to sell more is not a book I would have read.

I didn't care much for it either. I kept waiting for him to actually do something salacious and it's like "oh no, he did drugs and had sex"

I once created a unit based on this book, all about art, the soul, self reflection, art’s role in society, love, beauty, good and evil…this book is amazing.

It’s not about how it ends. You know it ends tragically. You know the titanic sinks. It’s about the journey of the character and the realization of the end.

Lord Henry wasn't trying to guide Dorian, he was just spouting bullshit he thought Dorian would resonate with, and Dorian Gray took it way too seriously. I thought the character Dorian Gray was an excellent study of a shallow narcissist. For him, beauty could only ever be skin deep, and that's the level he enjoyed all art in his life.
I loved the plausible deniability of the painting's transformation throughout the book, and I found it interesting that Dorian's first and only thought was to live a life that would make him ugly on the inside, rather than one that would have his outer beauty reflect his inner self.

Finding a great author or series can help but I agree finishing that rare book that really stays with you can be hard to match !

Reading this book I recently discovered two interesting meanings:
- This books is an INVERSION of John Bunyan's The Pilgrim's Progress, with Jane's path being toward a sort of religion of the self
- Mr. Rochester symbolizes Satan, aka the tempter, the serpent
I broke this all down on my podcast, feel free to have a listen: https://www.everymanacademy.com/podcast/episode/78dbcd63/jane-eyre

You don't win real friends by playing an agreeable role. This might work for superficial contacts, acquaintances, business partners and other types of small talk relationships, but not with friends. At least my idea of a friendship is, that I can be myself and totally honest with my friends.

Waterstones on Gower St, used to be Dillons. It’s a whole gorgeous period building (5 floors, I think?) of books. Definitely one of my happy places.

I can understand not wanting to focus on Jin being from another world.
Do you think he'll perhaps ever confide in the others that he is actually two people blended together? I've always wanted to see the others reaction to such a thing.

It 8s depressing finishing a great book and you want to stay in that world forever. It makes me so happy when it's part of a series and I have heaps of more books that will continue on the story
But if not I will try to find a new book straight away. I'll usually read a few samples before I find one I'm totally absorbed in again. Sometimes I'll think I've reached a point where Ive run out of books to read. But then a new book will show up on my reccommended and I'll discover a bunch of authors I didn't know about. I find Kobo is really good at reccomending books. Google books keeps reccomending me books that I already have in my library for some reason.
I just discovered the author Shanora Williams. The Perfect Ruin was so good. I'm reading The Wife Before next. I don't get why she never showed up in my reccommended sooner. Her style is right up my alley
