I agree that a school library not having a book is not banning. Also, a book being removed from a mandatory reading list is not banning.

The thing is, a parent should have a word in what they allow their children and what they don't. It's not a popular standpoint on reddit, I know that, but even parents you disagree with should not be forced to make their children "the community's property".
I don't have to agree with someone's politics, religion or wordview to admit that forcing their children to partake in things they are against is not a great idea.

It just opens the door to awful things. Many on this website are convinced that they themselves are right and others' kids NEED to be forced to live according to them. But those other people's views should be removed from the public discourse. So it's a lot of hypocricy.

Showing explicit descriptions of sexual acts to underage kids who are not allowed to say no is absolutely messed up. No matter what. I am not going to copy and paste things, but I am against that categorically

Lord Henry represented how Oscar Wilde thought other people saw him. Basil was closer to how he saw himself.

I loved Lord Henry, personally. I don't think he took himself at all seriously, and was amused that other people did, when really his only goal was to entertain himself.

You were receiving a tonne of downvotes for your argument and hadn't responded for 6 hours. I thought I would elaborate on the basis that your argument may have been misconstrued by some.

I now know that trying to defend someone who is hostile to everyone else is a fool's errand. Fuck me for trying to give everyone a chance to defend their point of view, right?

I mean, I have kept chickens, free roaming in an orchard. They have no interest in keeping their eggs most of the time. They get trampled or buried under straw where they go off. Occasionally you'll get a broody hen, but it's not guaranteed.

>Lol I’m not the one inventing excuses to eat chicken menstruation

If you're trying to gross me out, it's not working. If you choose not to eat eggs, fine, I will respect your dietary choices. Even though I know it's a one way street.

All libraries involve a selection process, since no library can fit every book ever published. That's not a controversial idea. What is controversial is taking books about puberty out of high schools "because they're providing porn to kids", and taking books that acknowledge non-straight people exist at all out of elementary schools "because they're grooming kids". Neither of those justifications are true; nobody was providing 5-year-olds with PornHub membership or The Illustrated Marquis De Sade.

Lol why are your trying to speak for me? The problem isn’t keeping animals that can’t care for themselves anymore due to animal agriculture. The problem is people pretending it’s ethical to take their eggs away because they’ve convinced themselves eating chicken menstruation is a necessity 🙄

Oh is it an odd take that after a decade of working with animals I’m aware that responsible hen keepers don’t take their eggs? Lol I’m not the one inventing excuses to eat chicken menstruation 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yep! I always try and jump straight into another book… but end up starting and stopping loads before I find one that hooks me in as well as the last so end up not reading for weeks 🤦🏻‍♀️

Libraries will often have their own sales. Also def check estate sales! I got all of Tolkien’s books, Wheel of Time series, and 14 of 17 Dresden Files books from an estate sale once in great condition for ~$30. I also use PangoBooks where people sell their used books online.
