My husband & I moved across from London for my work. We finally got our car the other week, and today he got fined $100 because he didn't park more than 10ft away from a fire hydrant.

Literally had no clue this was a thing, he read all the parking signs and it said nothing about the hydrant. No markings on the floor either. So we reckon this is a common rule that people know when they learned to drive in MA, or the US in general?

What other things should we know about, so that we won't get caught out like this again?

We both used to drive in central London, so we're more or less comfortable with big city traffic.
