Is there stuff to do around the river for people not totally invested in rowing . Venders or anything?

There’s supposed to be vendors and food at riverside park and a couple other places on the route.

Tom’s of vendors, alcohol, etc. it’s fun even if you don’t row or aren’t a rower. Just expect throngs of people everywhere and keep an eye out for boats that may take your head off
