There are a lot of cost of living calculators around that will tell you that you Boston is 66% more expensive than Birmingham, which would say you need 191k. However, in my experience calculators like these break down for higher income people like yourself.

If you aren’t spending all of your salary, not all of your salary needs to be multiplied by the % change in COL.

It will depend on your personal finances, but I bet you will end up with more savings making 150-160 here than you were making 115 in AL. Your house will be smaller here, but a lot of other things (including schools) will be much nicer.

Went ahead and did what? I went though the steps and im not seeing why you think it’s 89 for a whole new set. If Apple did that you could pay 89 bucks for a new set, and sell your old and make money. It’s $89 per item (L/R AirPod pro, or case). And $69 for regular AirPods

“You can replace a single AirPod (left or right AirPod) or a Charging Case for a fee. Use our “Get an Estimate” tool to review potential costs if you get service directly from Apple.” - it is per item…

Oh it makes sense alright. The reality is they didn't give a shit. I would file a complaint because officer jackass on the report could have and should have issued him Trespass at a minimum. The dude is not there to bring you fucking cookies. Brighton needs to quit its bullshit and wise up.

Also note about flash lights. By design and weight a modern tactical flashlight is an excellent bludgeoning weapon and blinding weapon. High candella lights with good weight make excellent self defense tools.

In terms of home defense, you want to build in layers to buy you time to respond. Ring camera, Motion flood lights, security film for the window, security bar to prevent it from being opened, glass break sensor, glass break alarm.

Also as crazy as it sounds, an Apple watch, Alexa and Google Home are added layers too because you can voice call emergency services and or trigger home automation alarms.

Other self defense items. You do not need an MA FID card to buy modern gel based pepper spray from Dicks sporting goods.

In terms of additional self defense layers - taking a self defense class and working the mat to defend against an attacker is a thing. Getting a MA FID and working through home defense training with handguns and shotguns is a thing.

Good luck and don't take shit from anyone.

An office I worked in had 8 laptops stolen. The thief broke a password on one and ordered a bunch of physical gift cards for restaurants through our company Amazon account. He entered his real name and mailing address. Oh, and we had security cam footage of his face.

So, thousands in company property stolen, thousands more on gift cards, the face, name and address of the thief made available. Police did nothing. Nothing at all. We got no computers back.

So, good luck with your AirPods but they are gone. Be more careful in the future.

“Hello police, My negligence resulted in the loss of a couple hundred dollar item that is my own private property.”

“Oh okay sir, let us spend THOUSANDS of dollars worth of time and energy and manpower and the opportunity cost of solving more important crimes in a BIG CITY to help you retrieve an item that you left behind.”

Read that? Does that sound right to you?

It’s hardly worth the police’s time to pick up the paper to file this report. Maybe if you were in one of the richest zip codes in the country and had a couple friends who said they also had airpods stolen in that location then the cops would help. Otherwise, understand that your low value private property is not a good way to spend public resources’ time in retrieving. Sorry, but that’s reality.
