What’s your prior salary history? If you have been making $60k, it’s a very fair ask.
If you’ve been making $40k…it’s gonna be tough.
Key to salary advancement in Higher Ed is change jobs every few years (it’s fine to stay at same school) and work under folks who are very ambitious. They will often take you with them as they progress up and into VP/Dean positions.
But if you sit in one job for 5+ years and accept the 3% annual raises…you end up being viewed as a potential “lifer” who is happy with the lower-end entry level pay. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but just saying that loyalty and good work won’t necessarily get rewarded with your department proactively giving you big raises and promotions.

I’ve seen some terrible things in my career. The worst being a mother who accidentally killed her young daughter. The funeral is an unimaginable pit of just devastation and soul crushing sadness.

I can imagine it’s a challenging topic to put it mildly.

Line the perimeter with random blocks on the ground, no one would dare tread there to escape.

The documentary “Not Carol” opened my eyes to this. It’s extremely dark and definitely not for everyone. But her husband sticking by her and insisting she would never commit such a horrible act if she wasn’t literally insane really stuck with me. Carol never fully recovered but her pain is palpable. Difficult watch but extremely enlightening .

I once worked for a tech company that moved from Boston to Framingham. They lost 70% of their engineering staff and it killed the company. A lot of the really desirable staff in the Boston area live in the city and DO NOT want to commute out.

Not sure if serious but Bradley has only one direct flight to Europe and zero to Asia.

Don't know about Harvard, but my wife works for BC. The pay isn't spectacular, but the benefits certainly are. Free education, crazy good health insurance.

My general rule of thumb is if I want something from a company, I contact the company. If a company contacts me, they want something from me. I would not engage with a company that contacts me without my asking them to.

Some areas wouldn’t even know what a rental agent is. I have agent friends in suburban locations that wouldn’t touch a rental even if it did stray their way.

Burnout is not a consideration for these cushy union jobs, but agree that pay and promotions aren't really there

Well, its the classic Massachusetts compromise: We can't agree how to improve transportation. But we can always come together and make all modes of transportation awful for every one, with bicycle lanes that just randomly stop and throw you into traffic, subway cars thirty years past their expiration dates, and car swallowing pot holes.
Pick your poison.

Personally, you'd have to pay me a lot more to work in the "outskirts" where I would probably have a substantial drive to work. The quality of life downgrade would be pretty big.
