I had that recommended but haven't done yet.
Will discuss with my dentist, it seems the best way forward hopefully he can help.

Your dentist is ripping you off. I too need cleanings every 3 months, but my dentist bills the extra two at the same rate as she is reimbursed by insurance . Your dentist is charging you "list" price, the reimbursed rate is about half that.

Folks with experience at Harvard -- we advise new hires to negotiate on things other than salary -- course releases, for example. Could OP ask for that?

That would be amazing but they probably wouldn’t do it due to its connection to the military.

Sorry to be blowing up your post but the reality is dental hygienists are getting $50 per hour. When you tack on overhead costs you’re not going to get a cleaning anywhere near what you’re expecting

I get four per year and have had insurance with both delta and blue cross. Because I had scaling done a few years ago the 4x per year was covered. Not sure if that’s the case with you but I can find out more if that sounds familiar

It feels like it’s been going on for a lot longer than that… I remember going there 23 years ago for some great break beat nights. They had a DJ from Ireland and I can’t for the life of me remember his name but he had some incredible break beat stuff… he did a set one night that was all robot fighting themed and it was really fun. That was probably around 2000/2001?

I was reading that dual insurance coverage is not straight cumulative.
We might still have the 2 cleaning a year, but will double check.

Could you get on a spouse/significant others dental insurance? Maybe each would cover 2?

I’ve always found gentle dental to provide a mediocre, but consistent cleaning. Very affordable too

My dentist advocated it for it because of my oral reconstructive surgery and dental implants.
Another scenario: I have a buddy who gets contacts covered because of his bulging eye and can’t wear traditional eye glasses.
Talk to your insurance, maybe

This is interesting.
I am going next month for an out of pocket cleaning.
I will mention it to him and see if he can help?
Do you have experience yourself with this process?

I am also trying to source a dentist that charges a decent price for a cleaning ($50-60).
I found recommendations for a few dental schools (BU, Tufts) but people say that it takes hours to get anything done.
I found a few cheap places (Gentle Dental for example) but they also seem to have bad reviews.

MassHealth can grant you 4 cleanings per a year if you file a an appeal with your dentist given that you have the necessary need for it.
zootgirl t1_j5u291b wrote
I agree that you'll be hard pressed to find any dental insurer that will cover four cleanings a year. Maybe you could get the other two at either the Tufts or BU dental schools? I'm sure their wait-lists are long though and you must commit to a much longer appointment since they're teaching schools.

Thank you so much for your response! Given that the range is 50-78, would asked for 60k be out of my reach as a new grad?

Have you gotten a second opinion?
Changing your insurance before changing your dentist is kind of wild.

I'd be shocked if you find any dental insurance that covers more than 2 cleanings per year unless you go the concierge route which would be a lot more than the price you listed.

I think with that range you could ask for 65 (just over the midpoint) and then they’ll offer you something in mid-high 50s and then you ask if they can go up at all and they might go up a little or say no but then in either situation I would also suggest asking if they would be willing to provide a sign-on bonus to help get you where you need to be. Almost everyone I know in a staff position at Harvard was able to negotiate a $1,000-2,000 sign on bonus (paid out after your first 90 days). This might depend on which school at Harvard your applying to so ymmv. Good luck!

The Gas Supply Charge on the December bill for my Condo building (4 unit condo) was 1.03880. Read the fine print and starting December 1st the charge is the same as yours .9870 per therm.
