Zaftig’s, Mamaleh’s, Lendy’s, S&S. In that order (my opinion). Mamaleh’s is the most ‘upscale’, but you pay a premium for it. Zaftig’s is just best all around.

Our Father’s used to be my favorite for pastrami, but they have closed during the pandemic. Miss ‘em. There was a time where I heard some rumblings of a return, but that’s all fizzled out.

A lot of people also like Michael’s Deli in Brookline. It’s a great sandwich shop, but it’s never quite scratched the itch that a classic Jewish deli does for me. I’d still recommend giving it a try anyways.

Keep an eye out for Lehrhaus, which is a Jewish tavern opening in Somerville soon (maybe next few weeks?). They’ll have a full restaurant - head chef is a James Beard semifinalist, so I’m pretty hopeful.

Yeah, this has been my experience.

I think part of it is that in Boston, you're generally safe walking down the street holding hands with your girlfriend. There's less closeting in general, and I think that builds less of a need to have "that one space" where you can be yourself, because it's nbd to be yourself in front of your neighbors/coworkers/etc.

The downside, obviously, is how the hell do you find that girlfriend to hold hands with if there's no gathering space where all the queer women are meeting? (Online dating. Ugh. I'm sorry.)

I also think Boston's lack of a night scene in general is a big factor. (Although I've lived in smaller areas with things like lesbian coffee shops, lack of nightlife hardly explains lack of a queer coffee shop... maybe that was just special though?)

It's not a non-existant scene. There are queer bars and clubs, and they usually offer ladies' nights, and I've been. It's just.... well like you said, I've lived in way smaller shittier areas with less stuff at all that still managed to have more of a queer scene than Boston, and that just feels ridiculous. But try the ladies' nights out? Maybe one of them will be your jam.

Its dependent on specialty but generally a good place to work. Easy to get to via the T. Great food nearby. Cafeteria is booty. Fewer bathrooms than necessary.

I wouldnt worry about the financial situation. Its undergoing a transition re: childrens hospital but unless you’re doing peds its not going to affect you.

I don't see how this is legal. Are you paying the heat from your own meter? If this is some kind of odd setup where the heat is coming from one meter and everyone is getting billed for their portion ( monthly bill of $1000 divided by # of apts) then you should not be paying for others who do not pay their bills.

That sounds super sketchy to me. Either you pay for your own heat and every unit has its own meter, or it’s included. Haven’t heard of this method before

I don’t know anything about Tufts Medical Center financial situation but they are tied to Tufts University, specifically the School of Medicine. It’s a teaching hospital so i imagine they pull in enough grants and what not along with the university funding to keep it afloat.
