I appreciate all the effort you and the other two mods seem to be putting into that subreddit by making every post in there, but there doesn’t seem to be anything there that we can’t get in other subreddits

Try naphtha (aka lighter fluid). Failing that brake fluid (seriously). Test a small, inconspicuous area first. It's probably the oils in the plastic themselves coming out.
