My Switch gets more use than either my Series S or my PS4 Pro, and I'd keep the Switch if I had to choose one of the three.. But you can't really compare it to the big boys, it's a different experience altogether.

Depends what you're after... I prefer my PS4 Pro over my Series S because of the huge catalog of cheap, quality, physical games.

Ok so I've actually got both Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus Premium so I know a bit about this.
Game Pass Ultimate is $15 per month and it has around 470 games. Aside from the quantity, this service gives access to a number of games on the day if release. It's pretty awesome playing a new game the day it comes out without paying full price. This is $180 per year.
Now, PS Extra is $100 per year iif you pay all at once. Do NOT sign up for monthly payments or the price almost doubles. This gets you the same amount of games as Game Pass plus an additional 3-5 games every month and it's almost half the price. It also has almost all of the famous Sony exclusives. However, you don't have the day one releases. In my experience, the new Sony exclusives take about a year to hit PS Plus.
Ok so PS Extra is $120 a year and it adds another 300+ games. However, most (not all) of these games are PS3 games and are streaming only (can't download) and performance is hit or miss depending on the game and your internet. $20 for 300 games makes sense for me but it's not for everyone.
So, from the information youve given, I'd actually recommend a PS5 with a PS Extra subscription. This will give you a ton of games for $100 a year. And the PS5 Collection is a other 19 games on top of that. Real bangers, too. The digital ps5 is $400 though. Which is $100 more than the Series S but it's a more powerful system.
I usually recommend going for the PS5 with a drive though. It can play ps4 and ps5 games and I can't tell you how many times I've found cheap or even free used games that would have cost me $60 digitally. Yard sales, thrift stores even trading with friends and co-workers are all places to find games.
However, if you do intend to play games very sparingly, I think the best recommendation I'd give would be the digital PS5 with PS Extra subscription. I know you were looking at the $60 Essential sub but that extra $40 on the year gets you 400+ games. The total package at $100 for the year averages to about $8 a month.

Because Microsofts Series X beats the ps5 in every category now, it's the exact opposite of last generation when Microsoft dropped the ball. There's nothing the PlayStation has that Microsoft doesn't have better now ๐๐

If you are not planning to get another console anytime soon: I would say Series S, because it is the newer console so will have more games devoted and developed more for it in future than the PS4 pro.
Also, it plays Xbox 360 and original Xbox games that you can buy from the store, not to mention the digital Xbox one games... so it has an impressive amount of titles of both old and new catalogues that are still great to play today!

Okay, that's a nice perspective ๐๐ผ thank you. Also, I'm kinda used to being robbed when using a Switch which only has 32gb memory ๐ค

I'm confused. Why do say sony dropped the ball with the ps5? In which area specifically? Also, the series S supports 2K right? Or did I miss something?

I've been doing some research but I'm still not sure about game pass. It seems to me the plus gold essential subscription is a better buy on Ps5 than the equivalent on the Xbox. I have never bought a game subscription given how awful the Nintendo online services and offers are... so my idea was to only buy some digital games on sale here and there, which is what I do now with the switch. I'm more of a casual player and don't care for buying games as soon as they come out

The facts say different. The series X is considerably more powerful than the PS5. Look up Sony's comments about the Activision sale to see Sony's situation. Selling more consoles at a loss isn't the name of the game anymore ๐๐

It is not considerably more powerful lol. The Xbox is absolutely more conventionally powerful but the difference isn't particularly large. Not enough for it to really factor into which console you choose. And this is someone who would own a Series X if he didn't already have a PC.
Furthermore, basically every sales estimate I've seen has the PS5 moderately ahead of the X/S.

Nope. Garbage performance compared to the Series X/PS5, 350GB of usable SSD space (the 1TB expansion is typically โฌ250 as well), no disc drive.
For me it's very much the definition of false economy.

Series X is considerably more powerful, plus Microsoft has considerably cheaper prices as well as free exclusives with gamepass. Sonys going backwards these days

The Xbox is clearly the champ this generation. It will take time but if Sony doesn't get off there asses and pivot quickly they could be on there way to there deathbed. They can't rely on exclusives only now that Microsoft has just as many if not more plus the better hardware, platform, services, values etc ๐๐

What are you talking about the ps5 has high sales and are continuing to make good exclusives not to say the Xbox series x is bad but you make it sound like the ps5 is on its death bed

If you are using it to play a lots of different games, and donโt really care about the better exclusives on ps(I assume you donโt as youโre new to modern gaming) then Iโd defo go for the series x, itโs more affordable as well
Hades358d t1_iujmiuv wrote
I voted xbox. But really it depends on what you have in the case you want to play together. and what does he wants to play. (I'm looking at you all the exclusives๐)

one thing with the series s is that there isnt a disc drive so all of your games will be more expensive as you cant buy second hand but all round better imo its next/current gen and as game pass ๐๐ป

Find out what his friends have , or if your boyfriend already has a playstation 4 or Xbox one. Then buy the corresponding upgrade.
