It really depends on your current and future gaming needs.

I might be an outlier, but I got the Series X primarily to play Xbox 360 and OG Xbox games. It upscales them wonderfully, they run smoothly, and there are even framerate enhancements for selected titles.

This was big deal for me as I have a pretty good size, and growing, library of previous gen game titles , both digital and on disc.

The storage comes in handy for larger games that take up 100Gb or more of disk space. The disc drive is great for โ€ฆwellโ€ฆdiscs!

So the Series X is great if your needs are similar. I also am not at all interested in new titles, so there is that as well.

Good luck with you decision. I can only advise you to think long term, as in a year or two after your console purchase, you wonโ€™t even remember how much you paid for it. But you will remember if you can play the games you want to play or not.

I always buy more than I think I need, just to be safe!

Get the S - cheaper and less bugs currently. My son's friend has the X, us the S. During the latest COD live beta, his friend continuously had to wait for game updates for his platform while we were going full time without interruption. Game discs wear and fail. Digital rights allow you to download (for free) years after you've deleted it. Finally most decent newer tvs will scale the series S's max 2560 resolution to 4k (or not far) All sign point to the S!

If you're buying a console for one game, and that one game is Gotham Knights, you may want to reconsider your approach. I'd honestly hold out for the thing you want (in this case, a ps5) as opposed to settling for less. Buyer's remorse is a pretty bad feeling.

You did well by identifying that Xbox has no next gen (current gen, really) games yet. I usually recommend Series X over Series S because the $200 difference can be made up if you buy memory or if you find good deals on physical discs. I mean, just borrowing a couple of games that are $60 each can make up that difference pretty quickly. However, if you are really certain that you won't be playing it much and are ok with the lacking performance and disc drive, then pick up the Series S.

Overall, I still say hold out for the PS5 only because that's what you really want and it actually has next gen exclusives that won multiple awards last year. But, if you can afford the Series S and still buy the PS5 if one becomes available, then go for it.

If you buy a Series S and a PS5 becomes available a week later and you can't afford it, how would that feel?

Nice I'm currently on the series s and if you are dead sure that you're going to try for ps5, get a series s to complement it as ps5 runs games as good as the xbox series x and you can use series s for xbox exclusives. Every game runs well on the series s too. Obviously the xsx is better but it would frankly be a waste of money.

I have seen many ps5's in stock on places like Amazon here in the UK but if you want the Xbox then I'd recommend the series s if you are on a budget but keep in mind that it does not support 4k and does not have much storage space
