Yes and No, Sony doesn't make the effort to make it worthwhile in comparison. In some cases the difference between the two is equal. What i mean by this is that for both, the xb1 and ps4 games that ran an unlocked frame rate or struggled to maintain constant frames will run at full 60 frame rate or constant target the game originally was programmed for. Same for games that used variable resolution, those games will run full 4k at all times. They also benefit from quicker load times. So not too much of a difference really other than the games that struggled to run stable will run stable or better at all times.

So where do they differ? well xb1 BC games will have HDR apply to alot of BC games that didn't originally have them, such as KH3 and it looks wonderful on the series x. Xbox also uses smart delivery where alot of games that support it will upgrade to the series x version if available at no charge by default, most ps4 games do not do this and will run on ps4 configurations. XSX also has certain XB1 games that can run 60 or 120fps even if they weren't orginally programmed to do so (some might have to be enabled manually, you can look up a list of games that do this, it's called fps boost)

Another bonus for xbox is that a number of orginal xbox and 360 games work and some of them also are able to run full 4k and or 60fps and HDR, when Sony does not offer native BC from the 360-PS3 generation at all.

TLDR; Xbox does BC better and shows further commitment to game preservation than that of Playstation. Xbox may improve and add more features or games to the list while Sony has shown little to no interest in it.

Yes it does more so if the game has an unlocked frame rate

30fps games will run at a locked 30fps as opposed to having dips to 20-25 and games that are targeted for 60fps will most often be locked at this as well as things like better loading times, increased resolution etc.

I noticed a big difference with games like NFS: Hot Pursuit, UFC 4 and GoW to name a few

Because you’re comparing numbers on paper. It never works out like that in hardware. You stated it’s considerably more powerful which is what I replied to. That is plain and simply false. That margin of difference is a resolution bump of again, minimal difference for players.

In reality, what we will more than likely see is One X visual comparison to PS4 Pro - which is on a visual level indiscernible for a ton of people.

We also have to account for API - again not just numbers.

You’re seeing teraflops and that’s it -

If you did more than a ‘Google search’ you’d see people like digital foundry etc have done incredibly deep dives stating all of the above albeit in far more detail.

Don’t believe numbers on paper - it’s far more complex and as proved by games that have released multiplatform - the PS5 is more than capable of keeping up with ‘ the worlds most powerful console ‘ and over taking it.

FWIW I own both and genuinely cannot tell a damn difference in AC V, Elden Ring or CoD titles. As far as I’m concerned PS5 has better looking titles already but they’re exclusive so it’s a moot point due to Xbox being on the back foot still, the only game that actually looks better from my personal experience is Cyberpunk since the latest patch and even still, it’s so marginal I doubt anyone could honestly say I’d rather play x version.

Halo Infinite had the potential to contend but had to slam for original Xbox one, FH5 whilst beautiful isn’t mind blowing - great optimisation though from Playground! I look forward to the new motorsport though, especially if they can work the same magic they did with horizon.

But it’s cool. I didn’t mean to come off as aggressive as I did so I apologise for that, I just don’t understand why people feel the need to brag about such a minimal difference when it hits hardware.

If my Switch was my only console, I'd be upset with the purchase. It makes a great supplementary gaming device, but it leaves a whole lot to be desired as a primary gaming device. In your case, if you're not interested in Nintendo IPs, there's almost no reason to have a Switch. Any other system will play multiplatform games better than a Switch and won't have as janky of an online play system.

I guess that depends on how much you're willing to pay. After trying and failing multiple times to buy one at retail, I finally gave up and paid extra. This was about 6 months after release and people were still selling them for $800+. I got mine for $650. This is just about $100 more than buying it from the store if you add tax so that was my comfort level but everyone's threshold for this kind of thing is different.

One thing I stress to everyone, whether you go Xbox or Playstation, always get a system with a disc drive. It will always be cheaper in the long run. Having the ability to buy, sell and trade used games will outweigh the $100-$200 upfront savings of going digital. You can find used games online, at yard sales, thrift stores, just about anywhere and they're cheap all year. If you find 2 games under $10 and those games are $60 digitally, then the $100 disc drive paid for itself. Over the life span of the console, a console with a drive will actually be cheaper than a console without one.
