Useless answer I know but both are amazing, have pro and cons, and are two really good pieces of hardware with great games and services. So, don’t overthink and take the first one available and you’ll be happy.

I will give you MY opinion. I got a Ps5 and I couldn't be happier... Everything is perfect about It... There's a lot of little details that makes it so great. I live in Brasil so the console and the games are ridiculously expensives but worth it.. Sorry about my english.

Although maybe is the distance or interference, did you already try the classic routine?

  • Check for update (latest firmware of the controller is “0307” — you can check the update in Settings -> Accessories)

  • Detach controller and pair it again (Settings -> Accessories -> Bluetooth Accessories -> Click on the controller and select Delete — to pair again just plug it with the cable)

Move the console further away from your router. 5Ghz wifi messes with Bluetooth. Unless there is something wrong with your console or your controller, this is the only thing that causes random disconnects.

Now hold on. There are reasons to enjoy the S better than the X. It's smaller and nicer looking, say, in a minimalistic setting/home. It's easier to port around/you can get a handy little screen for it and it becomes very portable compared to the X. It's cheaper, and if you're on a budget, that can mean an extra controller you weren't going to be able to pick up for another good while.

Aaaand those are all of the reasons I can think of.
Personally, I'd just save up/mow, like, six yards, and buy the X. But I'm also never satisfied/am always scrambling to fill the hole in my soul with "better" and "best", rather than settling for the bare minimum, and being happy with the experiences and joy it can bring me.

There can be joy and freedom in choosing "less" for one's self.
Add that to the list of possible reasonings.
