You have to bare in mind that the xbox S is digital only also, so if he had the discs for the games on his xbox one he won't be able to play them. If he's keeping his xbox one then I'd say get the switch so then he'll still have his xbox one until able to upgrade to the X. Me personally don't see the point in the S if you have a one, the X is so much better.

I feel like I can’t vote because its down to his preference: Xbox One can do most of the things a Series S can do, there’s not a lot of exclusives that he needs it for, but it is fast, and great to have. One important note though: does he use disks to play his games? Because the Series S DOES NOT HAVE A DISK DRIVE. Very important to know.

Switch is just all round great, perfect for playing games together or for him to play alone (Get Zelda: Breath of the Wild - this is the reason people usually buy a Switch).

Frankly, either choice is a good choice, so you can’t lose!

In fact, it depends from what he prefers and in fact it's hard to say who would enjoy what.. My SO plays all the time on her phone, I did wanted her to get in console gaming, bought her NDS, she has similiar/same games on it, but can't force to play on them.. I personally have few Sony, few MS & BigN products, all of them has down and upsides.. Personally, I would check his wishlists, but.. tbh.. If you're not sure.. Give him funds or buy it "for him".. That's what I would suggest. On other hand if he has Xbox already, he has games library, so new device won't be equal with investment big amount in games, and if he plays any "progress to gain" titles, he won't loose it. And only on that base I will vote for Xbox Series S

Oh dude I’m with you 100%. 8 had such a cool world, cool designs, and nothing beats how cool the gun blade is. Here’s hoping in the future man. Though I hope they do it right and have it as one single release, not this multi-part 7 remake release they’re doing.

The longer the console generation goes on, the less people should be recommending the switch. I recommend the Xbox considering:

1. His friends have Xbox.
2. The games you mentioned (as far as I know) are on both consoles, and since the Xbox has better hardware, go with that.
3. The switch is pretty niche with it's focus on portability. If he has no interest in taking games on the go, see if he has any interest in playing Nintendo exclusive IPs.

Some side notes,

• you mention that he has been having issues with his current Xbox one, why? Does he want to play better exclusives? Is the hardware dying?

• if he plays PC games on steam, consider looking into the steam deck with the TV dock rather than the Switch. This is if he has any interest in portable handheld gaming. The Switch is around 6-7 years old I believe. It's reaching it's end, and every recent major Nintendo release has been met with complaints on how poorly games run on it.

I remember when it was suddenly announced and constantly looking at the official site for every detail that would get released fully knowing it would probably never get released (it came out after the DS was released and the GBA was sort of dying).

Really wish I had a job back then (I was a teenager) and was able to get my hands on that Mother 3 Gameboy Micro.

Stargate. There was a rumored MMORPG at one point but it was shut down probably due to lack of funding from MGM.

Would be cool to see stargate version of star citizen, full free roam, multiple planets and a gate system.

Yess… I did intend Arkham Knight. Although I liked city better. Bat-mobile didn’t do it for me.

Maybe a remaster would be enough then. I played it on Xbox 360 and that has not aged well! It looks terrible now. I loved the darker themes and grittier look to the game. It’s my favourite GTA game and the one I’ve played the most. I was disappointed when GTA5 came out after being so excited. I got 100% game completion on 5 so I have had a good go at it and while it is a great game I just felt like something was missing idk I even played it again on PS4 but I would much rather of played GTA4 again. I’m like you, I didn’t have a problem with the cars in 4 either. At first I thought they were a bit floaty but I soon got used to them.

Unfortunately I don’t know if we will see GTA4 remaster or remake anytime soon after the bad reception of the GTA3 remaster! They definitely needed a remake though. Also Rockstar should of handed the project to a team who were capable of the project

Oh how I yearn for these. If wishes come in threes then a Star Wars battlefront 3 that does justice to the OG’s on PS2 (no unlockable paywall crap. Tone down the multiplayer, more bots etc)

I came to it late. Only played earthbound for the first time, like 5ish years ago. Moved on to mother 3 after and there's just no other games like it.

I loved the second one SNES and played it a bit when it was new growing up.

Finding out there were more games in the series was so cool to me and finding out the extra lore between games really adds a ton when playing the games.

Nintendo working with Microsoft to allow Switches to work as Gamepass Ultimate streaming devices. It'd be nice, but I'm not holding my breath on this one. A guy can dream, though, right?
