You need a membership to play online but it's only like 20 dollars per year, way cheaper than Sony's or Microsoft's offerings

Thanks, thats a bummer. They love similar games with blocks on the pad. Not planning to use it anywhere else than at home on the TV.

I'm 60 and "Mario Kart 8" is my jam. Literally fun for all ages.
I own a WiiU, haven't upgraded to Switch (partially because so many early Switch releases were updated WiiU games), but I can also vouch for "Splatoon," which is the most fun I've had with a shooter since "Battleld 1942," and I also hear good things about the sequels. It can range from casual ("Turf War") to extremely competitive (ranked play).
Also, there are very limited communication options, so no toxic behavior to worry about.
Finally, I bought "Smash Brothers" because I was told my young niece and nephew absolutely loved it, but it wasn't for me.
Anyway, Nintendo has always been a kid-friendly brand, plus the Switch is the least expensive option.

I'm pretty sure you can still buy them separately if you're not interested in the console itself

If you just want the controller, you can buy them on amazon or from Microsoft without buying the console

I mean yeah controller is better on the PS5, but overall I think the Xbox is better. I think ima go for the Xbox

I was team Xbox last time because I hated the PS4 controller, but it's completely flipped now. Dual sense is the way forward!

The switch has the same amount of buttons as the other consoles... They're pretty standard. It's not the NES.

I've decided but haven't bought it yet so still asking for opinions. Also tbh I don't have anything against either but ps do have a very toxic 12 year old fanbase, the older ppl are normally chill, but the young fanbase is something I don't wanna touch

All these things you said are preference, and if you already made up your mind from the previous posts you made, then why bother asking if you've already decided. Both sides have butthurt fan bases, one looks like a fridge while the other router, etc. Play the games you want instead of nitpicking on things.

For sure Nintendo switch. If you and your parter intend to use it, then you van see one of the thousands of "Playstation vs Xbox" debates online for more information, but yeah, for sure switch for the >13 range (not to say that you wouldn't enjoy the switch also, just that the games you choose to get on it probably wouldn't be much enjoyment to you)
