From a quick look on Amazon, a cheap 256GB NVMe is minimum $40. So, add that cost on to the price of the game, are you willing to spend $110 on a new game?
It's not a terrible idea, but costs need to come down quite a bit before it's realistic.

I felt the exact same way about BOTW & event took numerous sessions over 5 years to beat it. My best advice is to invest in health upgrades & then find the Master Sword as it has a recharge period after it "breaks", so you rarely need to use your other weapons & can safely use your good ones & just keep one of each elemental type weapon in you.
This changed the game & made me finish it without interruption after getting it.

Thank you! I've been saying this for years. I also don't know why they're isn't an option in rogue-like games to have a more like this. Have both so there's more content for those who want it & a fun weekend game for those that want to beat it & move on. You get people's money the same both ways.

Multiversus; I had a blast at launch & was playing nightly with a friend at who. We'd win about 70% of our matches, but that eventually went down a bit to 64% (this wasn't why we stopped). We stopped due to fighting the same small pool of characters that aren't balanced, too simple & too powerful compared to more interesting characters. We also were fighting people with level 40 characters when we were level 1-10 (perks not fully unlocked). Also the dailies took forever to do.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze; Great game but it just didn't bring me back to my SNES days like I was hoping it would. I've given this game another chance & went in without predetermined bias, which had made me really enjoy it. I figured out that the issue is its too explorative with long levels. The thing I loved about the original DKC Trilogy was that it was a tight, challenging rhythmic platformer. Tropical Freeze is more a spiritual successor to Mario World in DK clothes.

Red Dead Redemption 2; I devoured the first RDR, but number 2 having an emphasis on so much size activity to upgrade things & being a very immersive but slow experience meant I just got distracted by a number of other games. I do plan to go back to it & finish at some point, but I'll be focusing on story & only doing side quests not activities.

of course someone is gonna pop up the issue of the SSD production cost. it was similar to the case of cartridges back then (more expensive than CD-ROM at the time), but the difference is that SSD, of course, has more capacity (up to 4 TB, although only the 256 GB and 512 GB variants will most likely be used for modern physical games) than that of the latest optical disc technology (4K UHD Bluray, with "only" up to 100 GB), while cartridges back then had less capacity ("only" up to 64 MB) than that of CD-ROM (which is up to 600 MB).

I can already download games from my phone to my PlayStation via the app...

I'm a physical media guy so I'd be happy to see something like this but its not gonna happen and getting less likely each year... Price mainly, the cost of including a ssd with each purchase is huge, on top of the case and the prints that the physical media comes in/with, Vs the cost of providing a DL for the game. Also I guess the amount of people having poor internet decreases each year. Plus the big companies love control and money, so being able to lock customers out of their games and making them buy them again is profitable. Many more reasons am sure!

Why? Most people have Wifi. I don't see the point.

Earthbound the beginning on nes. Too much similitudes with Earthbound on snes (wich i played and loved). Plus this sensitive trigger that pushes you in battle mode every step you make on this gigantic map. I think about it and i'm so bored.

Only if they add like free emergency services. You know accidents happen and if you need an ambulance…

The switch is pretty affordable and I'd say you'd get a second hand one for very cheap. They also do great deals on the e-shop regularly.
I'm not into the same games as you but I absolutely love my switch. It provides a much better breadth of games, whereas I find the PS/X-Box to be largely FPS based.

The Wii was amazing with certain games. Graphics are terrible but if you’re more interested in having fun instead of wanting pretty graphics it’s perfect. I still play Wii Sports Bowling to this day! (Avoid the WiiU though)

I don't think we're far off from starlink offering sat data unanimously. Big firms don't purchase data, they purchase bandwidth on already operational infrastructure. Sony already has dicisions in almost every country. If the product isn't compatible with a certain market, don't sell it there... you wouldn't open up a dog meat restaurant in down town Toronto would you?
The fact that wifi is already available at home makes it even better, more than half the downloads would likely just be off wifi, solving half the issue.
Idk why I am arguing for this dudes idea, I just thought it was creative and out of the box. Ideas like this are not impossible.
OP was asking if it would be a cool product to have if it were viable, not to build an entire business plan.... they ought offer us a spot on Shark tank 🤣

If we're talking about a portable system like a Switch or something like that (which wasn't mentionned in the post so I went with home console for some reason), then sure, why not.
Strike a deal with a data provider? Sony could have done it with the PSVita when they were pushing 4G compatibility with it. Plus you would have to do a deal everywhere in the world, so let's say with Verizon in the US, Bouygues Telecom in France, Vodafone in Spain, etc... That would be a lot of deals to handle
Yes, I know how the free wi-fi thingy works. What I do know too is that consoles are always hacked one day or another, and I think that would affect that "free mobile data to download games" thingy the guy wants to push
By the way, same question as for the other digital systems: What happens when the maker or the data provider pulls the plug out of the project? Do you just have a piece of electronics laying there with like three games on it that you can't change since you wouldn't be able to download a game?
I mean the project can be interesting, but why would it be useful to have a system with a dedicated free data plan when nearly everyone who plays games has Wi-Fi in its home?

How many mobile console do you know of that can run COD?
Unlimited data plans are like $70/month. A major gaming firm could strike a major deal and secure this at a fraction of the cost due to economies of scale.
There are ways to limit data to one thing. Have you ever tried to log into those "free wifi" portals that direct you to their website and service agreement before allowing you free wifi?

A good business strat considers ease of access. If the games are available for purchase and DL any where, anytime.... you might have a banging idea. I could see that steam console implementing this.

No, you can't control what others to with data no matter how hard you try, it seems you're inocent
