Yes, just stating that the possibility of a virus surviving the process was greater instead of chopping up and reusing the plastic in something like injection molding where the melting temperature usually far exceeds the temperature a virus can live at. I didn't mean to imply it couldn't be done or isn't being done.

Yes but that wasn't the point. The point was explaining the different approaches. The US is an ocean away from anyone that isn't Central America or Canada. European NATO members were a couple hours train ride at most (besides the UK) from the reason NATO was formed, the USSR. Different geographical locations require different solutions.

High military spending is very much not a good thing. While necessary for most countries, military spending is not really productive, it doesn't help build a better, more capable society and it's a lost opportunity to spend on things that would.

That's at best case, at worst case someone starts thinking that all that spending should really be put to some use and goes and does something catastrophically stupid like invades a neighbor.

That in modern world almost universally ends badly for all parties involved.

I'm honestly surprised by the amount of polystyrene waste. What country is your diner in if I may ask? In most parts of Europe PS has virtually disappeared for the end consumer and - afaik - is also mostly replaced by other materials where possible in the commercial sector. But I might be wrong. Again, really surprised to see so much of it in your graph.

Yeah, and there are zero wild bears in South Dakota, let alone 1,100. There's occasionally one that wanders in from surrounding states, but there hasn't been a permanent population in over a century. I'm guessing the data on other states is way off as well.

One of the worst infographics I've ever seen on this subreddit.

Historically this hasn't been a problem, since the hypothetical war NATO was designed to fight was with the Soviet Union, and that war would happen when the Soviet Union actually invaded alliance members.

The situation today is quite different. The present and future threat is an aggressive China. For the continental alliance members to be useful in that fight they would need to invest heavily in power projection. And that simply isn't going to happen until China has already gone rogue, and will come too late to make any difference (see the war in Ukraine for reference).

Instead the U.S. will have to lean on allies in the Western Pacific. A re-armed Japan is going to be key, as well as South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, the Philippines and Australia. Defensive alliances with Vietnam and Indonesia also need to be established. China needs to be put in a position where a stunt like that of Russia in Ukraine would be absolutely suicidal to Chinese society, economy and instustry.

this is just a fancy table. The point of a table is to display all information with granularity. The point of a data visualization is to summarize information simply. If you need to write the value on every entity, then why use a color coded scale at all? Additionally, your legend is bonkers huge compared to the visualization itself. Look at how small the map is compared to the total frame of the image. And why do we give a shit about some of the information youโ€™ve annotated? I donโ€™t care about European population or the flag of Guam if theyโ€™re not on the chart.

What I donโ€™t understand is how youโ€™ve made 80 of these bear turds and never, ever, ever listened to feedback. Normally itโ€™s a โ€œpractice makes perfectโ€ kinda thing where people get better over time. Somebody could come back and look at this a few visualizations later and realize itโ€™s an eyesore because theyโ€™ve got more experience under their belt. But not you. Youโ€™ll hover at this amateur level forever. And that sounds like hell to me

Yeah those bears are tourists, they are residents of other states because WY and CO have not allowed for bears to declare residency. Luckily park rangers in both states have decided to overlook bears overstaying their visit.
