Quite frankly expressing the size of foreign economies in USD is just wrong. The most meaningful data point is PPP GDP, not nominal GDP in USD.

Quite frankly; yes I do. A country like China which is incredibly connected with the rest of the world couldn't manipulate data to that large an extent. We know how large their imports and exports are because we are on the other end of those trades. That's been the main driver of their growth these last 30 years. It's potentially more possible for them to lie about domestic consumption, but it's not like China is a closed society. You can travel there and see with your own eyes the progress they have made. You can see the new skyscrapers everywhere, you can ride the new subways and HSR lines, you can fly over the massive factories. People constantly trying to make up reasons not to believe the data are really just scared of the reality which is that the US is no longer the sole power in this world and we are likely entering a new Cold War.
PS: This is part of why travel is so important. Actually going other places and experiencing foreign cultures makes it a lot harder for politicians to lie to you.

People are okay with the idea of polygamy because they are ignorant and think of consenting orgy. The reality is a very sexist system that devalues women mostly. Ironically it is less condemned today in the face of increasing girl power.

Judging by the past two years it seems that more people are just fine with treason. Especially if their party is the one doing the insurrection.

I couldn't find a list of private family companies. Just look at the percentage of hold shares by the families. Those with 100% family hold shares are mostly german like Schwarz, Aldi and Bosch.

But they are publicly traded? BMW is on your list and in the top 500.

I don't think this would be enough to move the needle one way or the other in terms of what the percentages look like here if you were to obtain a fair market price number for 100% private companies and add them to every nation's total.

It's about the private family owned businesses. They are mostly german and would appear in the top 500 if they would be publicly traded.

I don’t know, could be a stereotype thinking that history is always going “forwards” and more enlightened. Sure, n general it is, but in the last 200 years specifically? Maybe there was a decade in the 1700s where people became more puritan than their grandparents. Maybe a religious revival or a moral panic or a new pseudoscientific understand of cheating
