I'm a house sitter and I've had customers offer to put their money under my management. It doesn't have to be family connections.

Your question provides a good reason not to use this visualization.

USNews needs occasional movement among the top three so that the new ranking gets some press coverage. Once you get below the top 20 there is so much random variation that meaningless changes in a few statistics results in seemingly large moves.

1 million seconds = 12 days. 1 billion seconds = 32 years.

Since I only read about 6k pages in 2022, I figure it will take me literal years to read the series! But I guess I will tackle that beast eventually

Still a little over 20% error margin with a $100k claim.
In the world of business capital, for a startup $80k is really not that much.

Except you forgot to say whether or not the change was net gain or loss.

Like others say, better to normalize the population data. Give as a % per state.
Also agreeing with whomever said the color choice is odd. Red usually designates less, or something not good. Green more, or something good. Use a neutral color like blue or purple. Or even green, since generally more insured is considered good.

Would be better displayed as a percentage of the state total or percentage of the total uninsured by state.
The raw number doesn’t tell us what the relative significance of the scale is without the context

But if you're a teenager without expenses is quite a nice start.
My friend had a job during high school and invested it all. When he went to grad school he bought a house with a ton of bedrooms (in a historically polygamous town) and rented them to his classmates...
On the road to 10 billion the difference between starting at 80k and a million isn't that big.
