You’re actually the best kind of customer for a bank. Chase makes half of their credit card income (1.4 billion last I checked?) from transaction fees when you swipe your card. You’re basically a risk free money maker.

Hehehe, the next graph i will try to apply something like a "dark solarized palette" 😁 i'm in love of this palette.

Credit analyst for a bank.
You’re wrong. We don’t like increasing interest rates and it usually doesn’t have a large effect on net earnings. Although we collect more interest our default rate climbs and it usually wipes out any gains we make. In fact, a rising rate environment can lead to increased bank consolidation because banks with poor management and underwriting standards have their default rates climb faster than interest payments can cover. This leads to a bigger bank buying them out or worst of all the FDIC shutting them down and auctioning them off to another bank.
Furthermore, what you call “financially illiterate” are often people dealt a bad hand or in a really hard place (minorities especially). What do you want us to do? Return to a system that basically red lines entire groups of people because they’re struggling? Lines of credit are extremely important for not only businesses but giving people some flexibility. There are absolutely people that can’t handle their debt and that’s exactly why banks have credit departments monitoring underwriting and making sure the bank is in compliance with the FDIC or other regulatory agencies.

Thanks man. You know it: every little detail in a graphic like this has taken several minutes (sometimes quite minutes) to decide the best choice 😅 but always someone else saying the graph shows up to make you see you could have done better.
About your comments, i certainly tested different colors for the blue bars and the orange line. I also don't like very much my final result in this sense. But it was my best result after 10 minutes of make a dozen tries 😔
Anyway, this is a great community to share and get excellent feedback. Sure. Thanks!

I like that you both show the amount of bands and the 'concentration' of bands per country. Like the other comments said, the chart doesn't read intuitively and it seems like something is off...I'm just not sure how to improve it (not really helping, I know). I like the red and black background, but the data colors (blue and orange) don't really work well with the background in my opinion. Matching the label colors of the y-axis to the data label is a neat trick to quickly see what goes with what. I will use that too from now on!

Yep. Maybe would it better to use only "LONELY points" instead of a "line"? Are you meaning that?

I think that another user ( u/groovycoyote ) has commented the same thing but with another words: not to use LINE GRAPH for CATEGORICAL DATA (list of countries on X axis).
Yep. I understand the point of you. But help me please to see the difference with a "double bar per country" graphic in this case (one bar for metric A, one bar for metric B). Wouldn't be this bar graph "less redeable". Even, wouldn't it seems that first bar is "before" and second bar is "after", just speaking about time.
However, when i use bars for "number of total bands" and dot-line for "bands per unhabitant", i think that i'm making clear that both are 2 different METRICS, instead of 2 different VALUES of the the same country (probably in different times).
Do you understand me?

I've stopped feeling sorry for people who get in debt over their heads, except student loans and medical debt.
The reason houses and cars are so expensive is because people are willing to borrow immense amounts beyond their means to have huge/luxurious instead of basic. Covenants ensure nobody builds a small house they can afford in that neighborhood. So a lot of people get locked into renting forever, and cars get more complicated and expensive every year.

Are you talking about the X axis (countries)?

i've passed several hours thinking about it in the past, but finally i decided that the "continuity" of the line (orange in this case) is more "appropriate" to render the MAIN METRIC on the graph. For this reason i put it so.
In other words, i would say the opposite to your comment: the orange line stands out above the "chaotic" bars, so it helps to focus first on the orange metric (in this case "bands/unhabitant".
Where i still have doubts is about where to put each Y axis. Which at left and which at right. I think that maybe in this graph i did it wrong... it probably would be better put the MAIN METRIC on the LEFT Y axis.

London is not very dense at all in comparison with these cities

The problem with London is the residential areas are super dense but then you have government buildings, embassies etc taking up lots of space. What officially counts as “London” varies too depending on the context.

What you should also keep in mind is that Ultra Orthodox Jews cannot use elevators on Saturdays as that would contradict their strict Sabbath-observance laws, thus making building with over four stories unviable for this community.

And not ordered high-to-low. Seem grouped by country. Informationally terrible.

London isn’t nearly dense enough to be on this list. With a density of 5600/km, I’d be surprised if London’s even in the top 50.

Agree.
I had heard, often about the Rwandan Genocide, but it’s global presence/‘footprint’ here is HUGE.
So much pain & suffering ! But thanks for the enlightening perspective.

Banks dont hate when you do this… it’s not ideal and their not maximizing revenue. But they don’t hate it, they still make interchange income when you use the card.

This community has given me great inspiration to create better looking graphs. It takes some time to consider things like color, but it makes the graphs som much more appealing.
