It's a relatively new territory (mid 17th century) as most of Siberia. Native Russian lands are located in 'Central Russia' (geographically those are actually the most western territories of Russia, some regions of Belarus and Ukraine).

The reason for low ethnic Russian population is very simpe - it's too cold there and locals were very hostile towards Russians, there was almost no reason for making settlements there. When cossacks advanced through Siberia they tended to stick to southern border, which resulted in cities like Irkutsk.

Harsh climate was also a reason why those territories were difficult to subjugate.

Other pink areas are north Caucasus (south-western region, 18-19th centuries) with very hostile natives and Tuva (begining of 20th century, the newest territory of Russia).

Thank you! Depends how you interpret the chart haha, there's a lot of up and down swings.

I track every day to increase data accuracy and to keep myself accountable. But even if my day to days varied a lot, I tried to stick to the magic 0.5-1lb loss per week on average.

I think the y-axis (polarisation) is pretty good and it feels correct, but the x-axis (entrenchedness) seems to be quite random, and an unjustified amount of importance is given to it. Like the US and Brazil are obviously super divided; aided by a centuries long two-party system. This is a huge problem and there seem to be no clear solutions for it.

Compare that to Sweden and the Netherlands that have representative parliamentary democracies and well functioning institutions; but this graph somehow classifies them as equally bad.

Congratulations! I really like the fact that you didn't yo-yo diet like so many others do when they're trying to lose weight. This seems really healthy and you'll definitely keep it off because you worked it in to your daily routine!
