Reply to Percent of US voters that can vote in at least one ranked choice election, 1941-present [OC] by thetreecycle
Ranked choice combined with proportional representation is the difference between a genuine democracy and a fake one run by two intransigent ruling cliques.

First time making anything like this, so any feedback is welcome :)
- Data Source: ourworldindata.org/plastic-pollution
- Tools: D3.js and Illustrator
Note: I took some creative liberties with the scaling (each stem is square root scaled) to try and make the visualization more appealing but yea it does suffer readability.

Meh, I'm sure some would say society is in a decline since pop culture appeared.

Another interesting view would be an xy diagram with amount vs coastline length

It has its faults, but at least it's not one of those animations that show the little flags changing places. I would much rather see a traditional chart than another one of those.

Yes it is. In Europe people have substantially lower expenses in other large expenditure categories like healthcare and transportation, raising housing as a % of total expenditures. This is not as true in the US.

So Philippines imports plastic waste, then dumps it into its rivers?
The representation is interesting, but the chart is a nightmare to read.
Maybe flags or shorter country names with the same alignment? Or maybe a sequential numbering of the bubbles and a legend linking the numbers to the countries? Might significantly improve readability while retaining the aesthetics of the representation.
Also what's up with the date ranges?

Can confirm that the Philippines has nightmarish levels of trash floating along the coast. The worst sighting was in eastern Mindanao where you couldn't see the water due to water bottles on the surface.

Question on general at the community regarding tracking your household spending:
What categories do you use? I always start tracking my expenses but then either have way too many categories making it tedious af or too few categories do the data isn't that useful.
Why advice on a set of categories working well for you?

Over 30% isn't that expensive compared to places like Europe.

You should see European cities. Here it's not rare to spend over 40%.

Is this based on local reporting or some common method? The difference between Philippines and Indonesia seems suspicious

OP, this is a really beautiful chart. Did you produce it? Can you give some insight into why the chart presents plastic waste generated in 2010 with waste emitted in 2019? Is this a question of data availability?

This chart is both beautiful and ugly. Beautiful in presentation (long time I haven't seen such beauty) Ugly in conclusions. The only good for me is that my country is one on the bottom line (PL).

It would be interesting to contrast this with the proportion of votes cast in ranked choice elections.

I think the chart could be clearer about the fact that the majority of plastic waste emitted to the ocean by the Philippines is shipped there by wealthy countries' rotten "recycling" schemes. The Philippines itself is one of the smaller producers of plastic waste.

From what you’ve written, I think viewing this as a line chart over time would be helpful.
A step further, if your town is split into areas, I.e. up town, down town, east block, west block, etc & view that again as a time series you might see a pattern in events in different areas there
Edit: you might see that an event that occursed in the ‘west block’ often has an event in the ‘up town’

That's why I did r/all as it is the place that's the same for everyone (I think) but I tested it with TOR beforehand and saw it was the same as my own so should be.

Reply to [OC] Which Premier League stadiums have a Fish&Chips shop close enough for you to walk/run to and be back before the 2nd half starts? by F_redrik
Everton has Lucky's Blue Dragon like literally a minute walk away from the ground, if that. So that would be 2 mins walk there and back, ~2 mins to get out the ground, ~5 mins for ordering. 9 mins walking, less running...
