I'm not a fan of football, but using team logos instead of country names makes this pretty hard to follow for a casual viewer.
Also repeating colors for different teams is confusing and doesn't really help with team recognition.
It also doesn't show the match scores which sports brackets usually do.
And it doesn't provide any information about the teams rank coming into the tournament, which again brackets usually do.
This format would look cool printed on a tee-shirt at the end of the tournament. But personally I don't see it as a good reference during the competition.

On one hand, randomness has no memory. On the other hand, regression to mean is a thing.

Six shots on target in three matches and oft-shaky performances from the keeper is hard to say Canada did well. That said, there were some close moments in the Morocco match. Topping the group in CONCACAF, I expected more from them.

>Then you have Uruguay counting their two Olympic wins as stars.
Yeah it's kind of dumb but you're missing a huge part, those are the 1924 and 1928 wins, the first WC was played in 1930 (bc they weren't going to include football as a sport in LA 1932).
Those 2 Olympic golds were won by the Uruguayan senior team vs other World class teams, as opposed to what we have now were the Olympics are mostly a U-23 tournament

We need one upset…Croatia vs. France in the Final.

They did, but Argentina is 10 places higher than Croatia in the FIFA rankings, so it would still count as an upset.

I'm really glad you are doing these! Are you planning to check whether the most likely/medium option is a better strategy on the long run?

Dead serious.
There is space above the 0 on the Y-axis. Big no-no. It gives the impression of there being a possibility of going below (literally above in this case) 0.

I think the version with the logos looks better than the version with the flags. Both cool though. Honestly the colors alone are a great indication of who is who. Anyway, special shout-out for getting the Swiss flag right in the alternative version (yes it is square)!

That doesn't explain why they've consistently had lower than average inflation numbers going all the way back to 2013. Covid is only an impact for the last three years of data.
