For US citizens, It just seems like a weaker passport. I think I can understand the value of a federally recognized identification system, but what does real id offer for people who already have passports?

I asked the question to see if there was some benefit I was missing. I have a passport & card, which i will continue to renew and hold for the foreseeable future. My state requires extra work on my end to get the real ID. So "why bother?" since I hold a passport anyways.

So I guess, if I'm flying domestic, and want to drive in the new state. I will need to carry 2 pieces of plastic. If I had Real ID I could carry one.
