Adding to the other comments, tidal forces follow an inverse cube law, not an inverse square law. The reason is that they're caused by differences in gravity, not just gravity itself.

As evidence of the cube law, we feel tides from both the moon and the sun, but those due to the moon are about twice as strong. The sun is almost 400 times farther away than the moon but its mass is 27 million times greater, i.e., roughly half of 400^(3).

It's the same reason Qatar spent a lot of money to host the World Cup: sports diplomacy. Sports transcends national boundaries, and by getting involved in sports a wealthy nation can attract attention to its country, allowing it to put its culture on display and increase its global presence and influence.

I was thinking (after reading the gateaway process project by CIA, the declassified stuff) that maybe, consciousness is the real entity/force that creates everything in a form of a delusion or hologram in an attempt to understand it self. But maybe, every time it does come to an understanding it's not enough and destroys itself.

Sounds like a Quote from Douglas Adams

> There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. > > There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

There is no reason for that to happen outside comedic effect.

The dampening of the eardrum occurs during a yawn because a muscle, tensor tympani, contracts somewhat immobilizing the eardrum. This muscle is a safety feature which helps prevent damage from loud sounds and contracts involuntarily although some ppl can cause it to tense on purpose. Speech therapist.

In my experience (Midwest US) the city usually piles snow up the side of streets, and eventually the city might load the snow into a dump truck for disposal in a field or parking lot.

You mention salt and its ecological consequences. Farming communities hate using salt, so they use dirt, sand, or gravel instead. The goal being that cars still get traction, but don't destroy farmland on the outskirts of town.

Usually when we see snow for 2 or 3 days straight, we clear 1 lane on the street and move onto the next before coming back and clearing anymore snow that fell. Its not all that uncommon that some areas will get plowed once per day so that plows can spend more time on the main streets.

When snow does freeze, we just drive on top of it. I would say my suburb street is burued under 4" of heavily compressed snow and ice right now. We won't see blacktop until early April for sure.

It could be a tooth thing. There’s little tubes in the enamel of your teeth and if you eat a lot of acidic things the minerals that sit in those tubes can get pulled out. (Ditto if you do tooth whitening procedures). If this happens, the affected tooth can become really sensitive to sweets or sugary foods. You can potentially reduce or get rid of the sensitivity by using a remineralizing toothpaste or gel (sensodyne is probably the best known brand but there are others).

If it persists, it’d be a good idea to get a dentist to look and make sure you don’t have anything more serious going on.

For some reason, no one else has mentioned that a person firing a gun knows that the recoil will occur when they pull the trigger and will brace themselves against that force, while taking a round into a bulletproof vest is usually a surprising event that the subject hasn't really prepared for.

It's akin to a person in a physical confrontation might easily brace against an obvious shove from someone in front of them, while an identical shove coming suddenly behind would knock them over.

US corporations keep taking gigantic bailouts, but it's not a problem for the overall US economy because the US can just print more money to cover the bailout.

If US corporate bailouts had to be paid in rubles (for some reason), that would give Russia a tremendous amount of leverage over the US economy, even though they have nothing to do with the US. And there would be nothing the US corporations could do about it.

That's basically what happened to Greece, and will happen to any nation whose currency is the euro.

I mean didn't the amerikabomber do a horizontal first stage and then use aerodynamics to gain altitude without fuel usage and then skip across the atmosphere?

My thinking is that you swap out the bomb bay for a 2nd stage rocket and fire that at the apogee to get into orbit.
