By changing things like how much gas and how much is let out as well as oxygen content you can change how a flame behaves. For a fireplace you want pretty long yellow fire, so you adjust the pressure and mixture for that. For a stove you want hot and for the fire not to go a foot above the stove, so you adjust for that.

This is a great point. If they're going to quote miles per gallon as a fuel efficiency figure then they also need to prominently display the battery capacity in gallons. Multiplying the two numbers should give you the range in miles.

At some point it will make sense to change to kW-hours but not while the great majority of cars still run on gas. It's the same with light bulbs where people know how bright a 60W incandescent bulb is but still don't know that that's about 800 lumens. Some LED bulbs are marketed with incandescent-equivalent wattage more prominent that actual wattage.

Essentially, impurities, the material being burned, and uneven combustion. A clean hydrogen flame is almost invisible. When burning a propane flame it is blue and purple when it has good even combustion and ionizes the gasses in the flame and it turns blue. Orange flames are more uneven combustion as well as different fuel being burned.

Well, I don't know about regular guys... but my family has this (apparently genetic) thing where the very tip of the urethra splits into 2 right near the end. The solution from the Dr's is to simply slice between the 2. Sometimes the flesh between doesn't want to come apart easily. Imagine putting your thumb at the end of a water hose.

Great question. Other people have provided examples of the types of names that exist, but I'd like to answer your second question. The truth is that it varies, and generally is a mess for the programmers and software developers who need to maintain the systems that keep track of names.

There is no standard for documentation that applies across a single country, much less multiple countries. For example: this is the US machine-readable passport naming standard. Other countries have different standards. Other types of official documentation in the US have different standards as well.

Falsehoods Programmers Believe about Names provides a good summary of the problem

> tensor tympani

Relevant Wikipedia: tensor tympani muscle

> The tensor tympani is a muscle within the middle ear, located in the bony canal above the bony part of the auditory tube, and connects to the malleus bone. Its role is to dampen loud sounds, such as those produced from chewing, shouting, or thunder. Because its reaction time is not fast enough, the muscle cannot protect against hearing damage caused by sudden loud sounds, like explosions or gunshots.
