The cost of living is varies drastically across countries. If you're in a small and poor country, 5$ maybe a day's wage. A loaf of bread might then be much cheaper than in a country where the daily salary is 80$. Even though the exchange rate between countries means the loaf is much cheaper in the poor country, its not actually significantly cheaper for the average person living there.

As someone who has worked in corporate financial planning for almost 10 years at a handful of big companies, I have never seen it be a policy.

All of them do a combination of top-down goal setting with bottoms-up planning to the goal. Discrepancies between them are negotiated amongst senior leadership with the goal of the CFO usually being to give out as much money as is necessary, but not anything extra.

Because there is rarely anything they can do about it. It doesn't help me to know a widget it $1 in the EU when I live in the US and they all cost $2 here - I can't exactly hop on a plane and fly there to take advantage of the price differences.

If I live in a developed enough society, I can order from overseas, but often the import duties and shipping costs will negate whatever price advantage there is.

I took a look at the first law of thermodynamics. Way too complicated for a quick read. I wasn't a science major.

It talks about energy in a closed system. Isnt the microwave inputting additional energy while it is running?

If you don't mind educating me a bit by continuing the dialog. I find science fascinating. Sadly, I didn't get the science gene. My dad was a chemist, one brother a biochemist, the other brother was mechanically minded. Even my daughter and niece are in the sciences.

I read articles, watch videos and grasp at concepts.

Because we don't really have a choice, and because it isn't reasonable to expect that one product will cost the same across all countries in the world for many different reasons. That includes cost of shipping, taxes and tariffs on imports, local economic conditions, etc.

One nitpick. The chain of command isn't so much that Cardinals rule over Bishops, but rather that Cardinal is a special title that some Bishops have. The title of Cardinal does not come with any territorial administration. A Cardinal is a bishop that can vote for the Pope.

There's also taxes. Companies get tax cuts if their net revenue is below a certain point.

Basically, if a company makes a gross revenue of $1 million, but their operation costs were $750 thousand, then they get taxed on the $250 thousand that was their net revenue.

A lot of companies, such as Netflix when they started out, will take advantage of this system. They will purposely spend money to recklessly grow their catalogue, causing them to be in the red by the time taxes are due. Which gives them tax breaks that don't reflect the reality of how they are purposely gaming the system.

Catholics don't pray to saints - they only pray to God. They do, however, believe in the power of intercessions and that's what they ask of the saints (e.g. St ..., pray for us; Mother Mary, pray for us).

So, there are many studies that show that being cold makes you likely to catch cold.

There are double blind studies done with some people dipping their toes in cold water etc.

The hypothesis for reason is that the cold makes your immune system weaker temporarily especially in the nose. But that reason hasn't been proven. But the fact around feeling cold and catching cold is proven.

It seems worth mentioning that a big part of the Protestant Reformation was the removal of the Deuterocanonical books. As a result, Catholics consider these books part of the Old Testament but Protestant Christians (the type of Christian I think most people mean when they are considering Catholics as distinct from Christians) do not.
