All of it. If you lost one engine, you would never unnecessarily shut down another. And if you lose one engine on a twin, it absolutely will continue on the remaining engine.

Nope, that just encourages more algal growth. It’s the high nutrient levels that are the problem.

Some people sure have some strange ideas about how businesses do business. I worked at a Corningware store, and while we did have a fair bit of merch in the back, it was the same stuff we had up front, not like...super secret extra good stuff we kept hidden because...idk? We hate money?

Reply to comment by BaLance_95 in ELI5: how does rendering a video game resolution above your monitor resolution make the picture more crisp? by ItsSnowingOutside
Assuming the time between frames are constant; there is no advantage. Having the GPU output more frames than the monitor can show, just means the monitor will ignore the extra frames. The GPU will do more work and heat your room up faster. So if your room is chilly it might be an advantage, depending what other kind of heating you are using. Most games have a frame limit, vsync or freesync setting, which in their own ways will limit the frame rate to something appropriate.

They would have used the world around them not, Use the light on a sun dial for time, Use Harvest of certain Vegetables/Fruits for season And lastly calculate all these things with their fingers and would have wound up with 2 seasons and 2 phases between them.

Reply to Eli5: When/How did the world realize that it wasn’t the same time everywhere? by Ice_Ice_Fetus
We've known that the Earth was round at least since Ancient Greece. And while they believed the Sun moved around the Earth, it still moved. Greeks were also really big into geometry and logic so they absolutely would have realized that when it's night on one side, it's day on the other.

Both. They had neither the content of Wikipedia nor the technology to store it.

Are there animals that eat the algae rather than let bacteria decompose it? Is there a way to reinforce a food chain with the algae at the bottom such that it replenishes fish stocks or whale populations?

Your citation tends to refute the idea retailers waste food on purpose.

The lunar month is a little over 29 days so a 13 month count is going to get out of sync with the moon phase super fast.

If you live in the same place for one entire year, you will notice that the sun rises and sets in a slightly different place each day, eventually returning to about the same place it started. I notice this in my own house, because the window from which I can best see the sunset changes through the year! Agriculture, which allowed people to stay in one spot for extended periods of time, made it easier for humans to notice these changes relative to their fixed surroundings.

Let's take the question further. What are the benefits of rendering more frames than what your monitor can display?

If you want to draw a colour, but only have a red crayon and a green crayon, it's a lot harder to make something that looks nice than if you have ten different red crayons and ten green crayons in between.

It wasn't even always that complicated, it is easy to observe the seasons. You always know what season it is because you know what the last season was. You are going to know winter is on its way just based on however many years you have observed it. It wouldn't be like people who didn't keep track of years wouldn't know to prepare for winter. Then you have things like the zodiac, where they simply observed where the sun was in relation to the stars behind it and drew significance with what that might have meant based on the season and significant climate or weather events and so on.

Reply to eli5 What is the difference between Iron and Steel? by georgecoffey
Cast iron is even less "iron" than steel, it's just called that way. Iron is a base metal. Steel is an iron-carbon alloy with the right proportion of carbon, where the carbon makes it harder. "Cast iron" is not iron but it's another iron-carbon alloy with too much carbon, so the carbon makes it brittle.
