Reply to ELI5: Can I charge whatever I want for a product or are there laws against that? by Zondartul
Nothing stops you from setting whatever price you want, unless you are a monopolist or coming close. In that case there are anti-monopoly laws which are meant to prevent this from happening.

While clocks on falling ship will (technically) remain the same, tidal forces would draw you , clocks and the ship into spaghetti. That would be highly unusual for casual ship obsever.

Reply to comment by spddemonvr4 in ELI5: how are chinese protesters able to post videos with the great chinese firewall controlling internet? by TImetalker
Perhaps but from experience, I setup a VPN endpoint on a server in France, then went over to China. I could connect to the VPN but I got just 1-2 minutes of access before it was blocked.
That firewall is fairly smart and I would think is doing some dynamic blocking based on the packet contents.
You're might have more success if you used stenography, hiding each byte in a stream of ASCII text

The paragraph after the one you highlighted says that the 3mile/hour number is generous and based off some battle where exceptional marching speed could have been expected.

1- The Chinese firewall doesn't control the internet, it only blocks access to some sites from within ISPs located there. Anyone can set a VPN, and it isn't illegal, even the government provides VPN.
2- Some areas aren't under this protection, like Hong Kong.
3- For things like the lockdown "protests" (that are basically color revolutions funded by imperialist countries), the ones recording are journalists from other countries. They either can ship the physical media, or they can use VPN to send the recordings

One does wonder if the people who are so overly sensitive to those side effects are going to jab themselves with an epipen twice, though.
Nothing helps an anxious disposition like dumping some catecholamines into the mix.

The amount of blood given in donation is well within the limits that the body can survive for a time without, and readily rebuild and come back from.
With traumatic injury, when massive amounts of blood are lost at once, there is not enough left to keep oxygen and nutrients flowing to the heart and other organs. The transfused blood brings the body back up to a functional level of blood, and then the body can take over and make more.
Void787 t1_iy36g5a wrote
You need to have a blood pressure within a certain range for your organs to function properly. If there is no blood available for a transfusion, you should at least add some water to the system.
Donohoed t1_iy36fgu wrote
Blood does replenish but if you're losing it faster than you can make it or lost a lot at once you need a transfusion to get enough blood to stay alive long enough to fix the problem and then make enough more of your own. The body needs time and resources to make more blood and can compensate for small losses like a donation or minor wounds but anything more and it's gonna need some help

All of these are incorrect, it comes from the verb "cop" which means "to seize/capture".

Kind of. I believe "cop" came first. Cop is an old word for "capture" (see common usage "that's a fair cop"). I believe "copper" would be the nickname as they are the "capturer".
Not 100% on this being the actual origin, but a quick Google search seems to corroborate it.
