I know at least a few Flutter developers that are excited about the chip. I don't know about a laptop, but some developers are playing around with the chip, so who knows what kind of useful software targets it.

I know there's also a Go language package for it, but a laptop form will make it easier to play with, so yeah it could also end up becoming a hot little item for testing.

On top of that you talking expandability? A tinkerers dream machine.

Yeah, I mostly agree with that. I’m not gonna pretend that I’m a hugely knowledgeable memory nerd, but I do know a bit and I’m pretty sure that having the memory on the package gives some form of benefit, and obviously because it’s on-package you’re not gonna be able to replace it. That said, their soldered DDR4 chips in their older (2016-2019 afaik) laptops were pretty stupid and anti-consumer.

And yes, Apple does charge extra for their machines. I’m happy to pay it because I live in the walled garden and because I’m reasonably sure that they’re not monetizing my data in return for that extra money that I pay them, but I can see why people would be upset about it. I own a custom build as well and while I love tinkering with it (I just did a full transplant into a smaller ITX case, which was a huge pain but super rewarding), my Apple devices just fit my life better. I would never want to do any form of work on my Windows machine, those little creature comforts that you get from having a full ecosystem (seriously, I own and actively use every single class of their products except a desktop Mac) are just without parallel. Nobody has created the ecosystem that they have, and that + privacy is really what you’re paying for when you spend $400 extra for RAM that costs them like, $50 to make.

Hey man, you by no means fucked up nor failed. You did what you could with the resources you have at your disposal. Your efforts are on a level that most of us wouldn't even be able to consider. You have and always will have my support Louis. You've earned it through what you've already done.

The battle right now may be lost, but it will continue. It's simply a numbers game, and we currently do not have enough on our side that actually understand/care about the issue. Most people I know couldn't care less about learning between HDMI or display port cables. Sometimes I wonder if it'll take Atlas to shrug before people notice we're all gone and finally care.

I learnt how to repair electronics by self learning, and when I found your videos it was like striking gold. I aspire to get to your level of knowledge and skill.

I feel like you're currently looking at the recent failed goal you set up for yourself, and are failing to see just how much of a good force you have been to the industry and the public already.

Keep your head up, remember your journey that got you here. I won't forget it.
