Neither hardware nor software is why Apple dominates.
It is their marketting and how they market their eco system towards "the average consumer", and they do that insanely well and are more like a fashion brand then anything else.
Not saying their hardware or software is bad, but it just isn't why they have the market share they do.

Well, there’s a difference between rumors- which are what they sound like- and leaks, which are often coming from an inside source and are frequently true (or at least, are for that stage of development). People who follow know which leakers are trustworthy sources and which aren’t.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone X both launched the same year.

Apple: we care about the environment so much that we’re not going to ship you a brick with your new USB C to lightning cable that no one has a brick for at home. Instead we’ll make you buy one and ship it separately. In a second airplane. A second delivery truck. And more packaging waste.
Apple later: yea all those lightning chargers are garbage now throw them in to the landfill!
Fuck Apple. I’m happy they’re switching to USB C but this should have been done YEARS ago.

Reply to iPhone 15 Lineup Rumored to Feature More Power-Efficient OLED Displays by StrongInteraction594
This year, I will definitely upgrade from my XS to the 15 Pro, but I have to admit that the oled screen on my XS is already fantastic for me and has not yet burned in.
Honestly, I'm very impressed with the oled iPhone displays.

The iPhone 15 isn’t even announced yet. We’re at least six months away from a release.

I dunno man.
At the rate Apple is going, they're going to remove the screen to cut costs. Instead, it will be a touch sensitive phone-sized slab of metal and glass. Users will be expected to buy into their latest Apple Glasses to see the screen in augmented reality.

What are the chances it’s just another iPhone that almost no one will be able to differentiate in a meaningful way from the past 5 of them?

Apple, a trillion dollar company that blocks right to repair, uses 2nd and 3rd world slave labor, isn’t even remotely vertically integrated, uses Samsung displays, but will take Samsung to court over the rounded corners on a design patent.

Their products are also generally very user friendly, compared to competitors. Things inside the ecosystem “just work” in a way they don’t in other environments
