I'm no psychologist, but I imagine that thing can't be good for people who struggle with loneliness or other mental health problems. Just like things like Replika and those weird animatronic sex dolls, it seems to me like it's specifically designed to prey on those people.

Besides, it is absolutely creepy. It's basically a disembodied robot mouth; what about that isn't creepy? That doesn't mean I'm criticizing people who would use it.

I think context is important. Valve, just like Microsoft and Sony, can sell their consoles at a loss. They can do this because they make up the price in game sales through their ecosystem.

Other tech that doesn’t have a secondary market will never be able to compete with that.

Play date has a much smaller eco system, and games seem to range around $10 rather than the AAA $50-$70. Also it comes with 20+ games.

I don’t think this device is for everyone, not even for me. But for those that this is marketed towards, they seem to enjoy it a lot.

I don't get this sentiment. If you feel this way about it, you're not going to buy one. If two other people use it, that's their business and they are going to use it in their own private way. I doubt if they can force someone to watch them using it. How is it vulgar if it's mutual and private? Is pooping in private vulgar too?

I'm looking at it and thinking fine, go to town. What difference does it make in my life? none whatsoever.
