I heard a rumour there’s a card that has similar performance to a 4080 but drinks half the juice and is half the size.
Heheheheheheh.

oh size is a huge off put. maybe not to the hobby mining or home miner. But let me tell you when you have 100+ gpus....space adds up very fast. and with dual and triple slot cards and now quadslot..... I'm good.
also, miners don't push the OCs on these cards. we power limit them to a bare minimum.
the reason why partner cards were so much more popular was that it was easier to adapt to the normal 6 or 8pin we had been using forever..
Serious miners tried to dump their FE cards asap. Poor cooling poor performance.
This is in part why the CMP cards were developed. High power amper chips in a dual-slot design.

The size isn't down to putting off miners though. If it was the partners producing cards would be using smaller heatsinks but they're forced to use massive ones because of the power draw and heat output.
Though I suppose it's possible that Nvidia have forced them to use larger heatsinks though. They're not known for treating partners well hence the EVGA situation.

You're playing at pretty low frames if you're doing AAA games at 4k on a 1080 ti.

Games' demands have gone up a lot with ray tracing.
Also the displays that can make use of this power are very much worth using, just saying.

A lot of high refresh rate ultrawide monitors can made use of the power too. And there's the 360Hz 1440p monitors too, but that seems somewhat pointless imo.

Oh sorry. I meant anything over 1080p resolution. Of course it will run in any monitor. I rocked my 1080ti until last year when I couldn’t run games at 1440p good enough ( I have one 1440p and one 4k monitor). It was just just not good enough for newer games at 2k.

Been using it with my 4k monitor with no issue. The one time a game didn't run right was Elden Ring which was why I decided to upgrade my CPU.

I'm so tired of Nvidia, they've been increasingly anti consumer with every new GPU that comes out. I'll just get AMD at this point

I don't expect them to ever become mainstream, because they provide no real value.
8K TVs have been around for years and there is still nobody even talking about making content for them, because even with 20/20 vision you can't see the difference at any reasonable sitting distance.

I think their logic was that if you’re spending 1200-1600 on a gpu, you either have or can afford and will buy a bigger case.

I just got to laugh at them. 30s series was so popular and loved because of the value. And they went... "how do we ruin all that good will?"
