Just been discussing this with a friend today, thought it was interesting.
I'm approaching my mid-thirties now, and have always been into video games. From your FPS's to your open world games, I generally give everything a try. Gaming has been a constant part of my life, in my down time as a way to relax and have fun. Only now, I am very very much losing interest in all forms of gaming.
The last game I played and finished (driven by pure enjoyment and not this 'I should probably finish it' feeling was RDR2). 99% of games I pick up now I feel like I can just see the flaws immediately and I get put off.
Part of me thinks it's because the games are worse than they were 10 years ago. Part of me thinks it's because I'm older and harder to impress. Part of me thinks it's a bit of both.
Open world games have always had fetch quests, but in games I play now I can see them for what they are immediately and they feel like such relentlessly boring way to spend my time. Colony sim's have always had a 'progress through the tech tree and survive the raids' gameplay loop, but now as soon as I can see the obvious end goal I get bored. FPS games have always had the 'progress through the story and get the bad guy' setup, but now I find them all so boring. These are just some examples, but have the fetch quests, gameplay loops, stories etc. etc. got worse or am I just getting bored of gaming?
