Maybe it's just me, but I'm getting kinda annoyed when I play a game that I paid for and it tells me that I can buy this weapon for $4.99 or that skin for just $9.99. Even if it's cosmetics, it just feels like I'm playing a shop with some gameplay elements instead of a game.

When I was a kid (20 years ago), things like that weren't even possible. You buy a game, that's it. Patches came on CD with some magazines, if at all. Yes, you could buy expansions sometimes but you weren't constantly reminded of that in the game.

Games were designed to be fun - or at least the devs tried to achieve that. Nowadays, many are designed just to make you spend more money.

While I grew up, I played some free-to-play MMORPGs but even those were fun without spending (much) money and they did not have gambling mechanics (lootboxes) like some modern games.

I kinda look forward to the next Elder Scrolls because I really enjoyed Skyrim but I'm scared that they add microtransactions and/or generally mess it up.

Does anyone else think like that?
