Got a new storage for my PC and wanted to move some games there. In Steam you get a list of your games sorted by location and you move them with two clicks. Easy. Then there is Anno 1800. Bought through Epic and launches through Uplay. For Uplay you move the folder manually, then set the new location in Uplay and verify the files, redownload what it couldn’t verify and reinstall your mods. Takes ages but at least it works. Now you have to tell Epic of the new location. To do that you make a backup of your game, uninstall it through epic, start installation, pause it after a couple of minutes, move your backup to the new location, unpause installation and for verification. Now the game appears as installed but doesn’t start. I gave up, uninstalled and just download it to the new location.

Why the fuck can no one except Valve create a good user experience? Everything from buying a game over inviting friends to a lobby to installing mods just works so smooth. Every other launcher you don’t even want to start. Sure, Steam exists much longer than any other launcher, but it’s not like Ubisoft, EA or anyone else had to start from scratch. They benefited from what Valve already did. They knew what works and what doesn’t and they knew what is important. They were able to build upon that, but instead they decided to create the worst possible experience.

Edit: Jesus Fucking Christ I finally finished that download and when I try to start the game it needs an update of 25GB. WTF? I downloaded it just now. Why is that patch not already applied? Or why didn’t it at least download automatically after the installation was finished?
