They're just dated, but they are mostly about the story and acting, gameplay is secondary, at least until the 4th one. Stories are really good though.

The 4th one has really fun gameplay and is really intuitive.

I hope you stick with them, but if the story isn't hooking you, then it might not be worth it for you

Thanks fun-vanilla-4466 that's good to know.

I was a bit concerned because what I thought would be a couple of hundred is spiraling budget wise. We could do with a TV and they would love to game though.

So I don't mind , but you know yourself it's a steep purchase! I'd have been raging if I got the wrong sort of TV etc.

The tuner for TV in Ireland is called Saorview. It's a pain in the arse because tvs from the UK won't work without buying an additional Irish tuner which adds about 100 minimum to the price so irish market tvs are usually more expensive , but if you get the UK one you need to waste a port and have another dvd player sized yoke and watch TV via an option instead of buttons 1 2 3 etc. You might even need another remote. I'm just not a fan . Now not essential but may as well use the telly as a telly too 😉

That too. But honestly, not every fucking game needs a remaster, remake, reinvention, reincarnation or anything. Especially if you can still buy the original and enjoy it.

Maybe that way young gamers would understand that gameplay, story and enjoyment is more important than the graphics of any AAA title.

They wanted a switch because their friend had one and they had a playdate and loved it.

If friend had had another system they'd probably love that to iykwim

They have no experience with consoles other than that

They did get tablets last year and have kept them alive though I did get sturdy covers and screen protectors My sons tablet is slightly curved now and he's on his second protector which is cracked , but tbh I'm surprised they've lasted as he is quite clumsy and walks around with it 😂

Most of my recommendations are assuming you have a pc...

I second tetris, but playing tetris effect with its music is an experience in of itself. Especially in vr. Lumines also falls in this category.

Assetto Corsa with vr and the Shutoko revival project is so damn relaxing driving at night with the weather set to thunder and rain to some good music. I actually fell asleep and woke up to me crashing and my steering wheel going crazy. Pretended like I just didn't total an Impreza and went to bed.

Slay the spire consumes me, it sucks up all my attention and listening to music enhances the experience.

Devil daggers is quick pick up and play sessions trying to beat your best time. Very simple fps but challenging.

Audiosurf 2 is actually a great way to enjoy music, there are many games that use your own music, but I enjoy this one a lot. There's a very easy mod to use YouTube for a music source.

What I should recommend though are Minecraft, stardew valley, Terraria, animal crossing, and perhaps games like portal knights, dragon quest builders, and no man's sky to just explore.
