You consider Returnal? Maybe the best game I’ve ever played and very different feel from other games I’ve played. Since that game I feel like I’ve been searching for something like it but there is nothing quite like it.

Your first sentence contains eight words, three of which are pronouns.

Pronouns are a common part of English. You can write around it, but it will sound incredibly awkward. For example:

"/u/Sheeplearehypmotized is a man. /u/Sheeplearehypmotized does not want to be called a pronoun. If /u/EclecticDreck uses pronouns, /u/EclecticDreck is not as strong minded as /u/EclecticDreck believes."

See? Awkward.

Not really. People do different things for different reasons. I know people who make up elaborate backstories for their characters, and go through the game as if they are being told a story ABOUT those characters. Me personally, I go the self insert route, so I have a really hard time playing female characters. I like to imagine I AM the character. I also do that with books, so its hard to read a book if the MC isn't male for me there too. It doesn't bother me at all to have female leads in movies or TV shows, but books and games can be difficult if the MC is female.

After reading this comment, I went and watched a clip of the South Park episode where Stan sees everything turn to shit and he can’t enjoy anything or anyone. I get like that and not saying that’s where you are, but I empathize about nothing interesting you and wondering why.

I hope you find that spark to bring you back. I’ve battled — and still do — depression. Sometimes it’s not depression, just apathy. I explored new hobbies, met new people, and tried to unpack what about the things that once interested me had that effect and what that looks like as I get older.

It can seem minuscule at first too. I went from not being able to afford games to Pre-ordering and day one buys to now looking at sales for cheap gems to enjoy one day, when I feel better.

I wish you all the best 🫂

I don't see why we would care if a guy plays a female character. I play male characters sometimes. Honestly, I think the only part that's a little confusing to me is that you never play male characters. What if you're playing a game that doesn't let you create your character and the character choices are only male characters? Would you just not play the game? Or what it has a mix but the female characters aren't very fun to you? Would you force yourself to play the female characters anyway?

I do have a friend who won't play any male characters and she loved the Tomb Raider games and always wanted to play Uncharted but refused to because the main character is male so some people are just like that.

I just play my "core games". Things like Factorio, Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, Cities Skylines, Chrono Trigger, Resident Evil 1 and 4.

Stuff I can sink time in to that always immerse me. Like starting a fresh run in Chrono Trigger and doing all endings. Or fresh Zelda run and unlocking EVERYTHING.

Yeah. I go through phases. Probably entering one now. Just finished Forbidden West and don’t have anything lined up to play next. I’ll probably not play anything for a few weeks or months and then something will pique my interest. It’s a good time to explore other hobbies or things you’ve been putting off. I’m glad for these lulls, to be honest.
