Tell me about it, I can still remember thinking how am I going to get 100 gold for my first mount! I remember it taking ages back in vanilla not only getting to level to 20 but grinding gold unless you were a high level crafter was such a pain. I was always jealous of druids, eventually made a druid tank for cata.

You're right that the world was still dangerous with Calamity Ganon around, so a full on city is probably too much to ask for anywhere besides the place Tarrey town is situated.

But it would have been interesting to see more than just the occasional adventurer getting smacked around by bokoblins, i.e. a group of adventurers that forms temporary camps. Something neat to spot in the distance.

>Which would be cool, though the impression I got from the trailer is that the monsters are also back. Hopefully it doesn't go in an annoying Minutemen direction...

My hopes are not high, but we'll see!

If you used to jam the SNES, you'd probably have a great time with the Switch. The catalogue of old games (which you may know from the past) from NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and now Gameboy/GBA is really large and quality now imo. It comes with the Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Switch also has, at least in my opinion, some of the best modern games in those old series. Mario Odyssey and 3D World, Metroid Dread, DKC Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

If you wanted to go *pure* nostalgia, you can get a SteamDeck and install like every emulator up to xbox 360/ps3. It's basically a small linux PC so it can be trickier to set up, but really is not bad. It could also play newer PC games from Steam, which was more the point of it. Like you can play the God of War and Horizon PS4 ports on it. Those PS4 exclusives are excellent titles.

TL;DR imo the very best way you could dip your toes back into gaming, with the best combination of new & old/nostalgic, you'd do well with a Nintendo Switch.

Anthem and Battlefield 2042 were the final nails in the coffin for me getting hyped for games before release. These games had incredible marketing and trailers that didn't at all resemble what we got with the final product. I don't even trust the initial reviews on most games, because now developers will scam the playerbase by holding off on predatory monitization schemes until after the release reviews go out.

So yeah, I don't pay any attention to release dates or marketing for games anymore. I will judge games solely on how good they are when the fully release, regardless of how long they were in development.
