While not often said enough the anime really helped shed a light on Night City as it impacts the world. The overall story of C2077 and V was bland but the world genuinely felt lived in as you watch people succumb to their vices everywhere you look.

Night City was beautiful, tragic, and the city itself changed the lives of everyone in the game, except for V. I think that's why it's so hard to connect with the game. Because you control all of V's choices, Night City doesn't feel like it's in control of you.

The issue is really that there are so many games out there, there's no reason to play a mediocre one, so a B- game might as well be an F. Back in the day we would rent games for a weekend, and they would be awful, but we would keep at it because that's what we had. We would even re-rent awful games.

But now if you play a game that's only okay, why would you bother continuing? You can just ditch it, maybe even get a refund, and buy a game with better ratings. There's no shortage of those. So now there's far less reason to power through a game that's only okay.

But im a completionist and trophy hunter and since the last decade or so games are getting longer and longer. Just because its open world doesnt mean that the world is good, its mostly empty aside from 1 npc for stupid fetch quests. There are not many open world games which use open world in a good way.

Pay to win mechanics will prevent me from even considering a game. I don’t like it when the paid items are “just cosmetic” either. But I tend to tolerate that because it’s in damn near everything. But if that’s too egregious I won’t play that either. Looking at you, Overwatch 2.
