It's not contemporary, but the style is identical. Most Sierra adventure games from the late 80s looked just like this.

What made you choose hand draw over some pixelate color/scale map filtering program?
- like im a little rusty on my signal processing, but a averaging filter convolution/downsample, then 1/sqrt() normalization to color map, wouldnt even be bad in numpy
