I call this utter bullshit.
When you're depressed you don't feel like anything. So if they meant "listening while in bed and doing nothing else", sure, otherwise, 100% disagree.

Yeah, this was initially some of my hesitation to try estats early on, as well. Technically speaking, if you did pick up an energizer, you could hook it up to your AHB2 and have an incredible setup - or separately pick up an amp that can be directly fed from one of your DAC's instead. There are older (but still quite capable) Stax SRM-1 amps that routinely show up on eBay, like this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/144836240623
This can allow you to run modern estats using Pro bias, as well as older vintage Stax through the Normal bias.

Why so obtuse? The context is obviously about prices in the used market. The OP clearly stated as such, and the math is clear and simple.

I am driving these SR009 with Stax SRM-717. I have no personal experience with other Stax amps though I’ve heard the 353X is no slouch for these (and they are much easier to find used than 717). I heard these from a Chord Dave > BHSE when I auditioned them recently. Do my rig do them justice? I think so, as I don’t remember the sound being so vastly different with my audition. The SR007 I read is much harder to drive though. What I mean is if you know the sound is what you want, there are used Stax amps that won’t break the bank so don’t let that hold you back :)

Do you like the 8k peak? Since ur not making music and this thread is just about getting stuff to sound good to you, it’s subjective and you can do whatever you want.

The section at about 16 minutes seems to be relevant to your headphone impedance. If you're not hearing any noise or distortion at your listening levels then you should be fine.

I had a similar experience years ago. I first tried them at a show back when I had much less exposure to good quality audio and thought they sounded meh. Fast forward to a couple months ago, tried them again also at a show and I was floored. I don’t think they sound like any planars I’ve heard driven from the BHSE (MAYBE the Susvara but the timbre is quite different). These required a longer audition time and the right environment for me to be able to appreciate them (superior transient and tone naturalness to the Susvara I heard at the same show, and though I love my LCD2F, I don’t think the LCD-5 are on the same playing field with the Sus and SR009 in technical abilities).

"Flat" by measurement is not the same as "flat" by ear since human hearing is not linear.
If you want to EQ by ear and want a "flat" sound, basically what you want is equal loudness from 10Hz to 20KHz. IEMs are more capable of this than headphones in regards to distortion.
If you want a "flat" sound by measurement (dB SPL) (but doing it by ear) then there should be a gradual roll-off from 1KHz down to 10Hz, a -3dB dip around 1.5KHz, a rise to +3dB at 3.2KHz, then a gradual roll-off up to 20KHz.
I think a happy medium is somewhere in between. Most people like a bass boost and treble is subjective too. Listening level matters. Having a smooth response is key so no stabbing peaks or troughs.

Ove watched that video but Im not 100% sure that Im interpreting it correctly. Can you provide some guidance on what to look for?
Edit: the 2Cs are 70 Ohms. So the solo should work okay with the Solo? He says that with 30 Ohm headphones theres audible distortion at higher listening levels.
So it should be okay with slightly higher Ohm Headphones and lower listening levels (10/11 oclock for me)

As others have said, a cardboard box with bubble wrap or newspaper works. I have a sizable stash so I have a separate box for input tubes and power tubes. I’d love to get something like this eventually but idk. I’m cheap lol

Why not compare cheap to expensive headphones? I'd much rather have the HD600 than any STAX. They just sound more correct to me.
Depending on what YouTubers you watch silver cables change the sound of headphones. So, not really a good source of information.
Equivalent in what? Place in the company product stack?
And cheaper how? You still need at least a 500 bucks (srm 252S) amp for them, whilst 99% of conventional design work with any 100€ or cheaper amp.

Not sure why you're being so aggressive. Never claimed anything about price and performance. Yes, top bracket in terms of price, because I wouldn't really be comparing something like a X2HR to a Stax X9000. Also, I have wouldn't have any interest in making that comparison either.
From what I've read, the Shang JR is the estat equivalent to the Susvara. Assuming it is, its used price is much lower, ~ $2000 vs $3000+ on Susvaras. Not here to discuss dealer markups, flagship MSRP bonkers. Just making a point about estat equivalents being cheaper.
Similarly, SR007s can be found from ~$900. That's the same price as your HD800(S). Now I have no idea how the Staxs sound, but based on one of Resolve's comments, they were held in high regard, in the same company as Utopia and Susvara (prior to LCD5 release). Now, from a price perspective, ~$900 vs $2800 vs $3000+, that's an interesting value proposition, at least for me.

This post has been removed. Please note the following rule:
>Rule 2: Ask purchase help questions in the Shopping and Setup Help Desk found at https://reddit.com/r/headphones/about/sticky > >Requests for product opinions, comparisons, and general purchase advice must be made in the dedicated Shopping and Setup Help Desk found at /r/headphones/about/sticky instead of a new post.
You may also use r/headphoneadvice but please search their resources and familiarize yourself with their rules first before posting.
What questions are considered purchase advice?
-
A request for product suggestions, comparison requests, or opinion requests fall under the purchase advice rule. These can often be found by searching first.
-
Any suggestion or comparison request pertaining to headphones, IEMs, DACs, amps, or other accessories should be directed to the purchase help thread or r/headphoneadvice.
-
Asking the subreddit to help make a decision to buy a product does fall under this rule (e.g. "should I get dekoni pads for my HD650?").
Why does this rule even exist?
-
In short, this is a large subreddit with a high volume. We want to help, but it's important to keep things organized to keep the sub fun. Thanks for your understanding.
-
A more detailed explanation about this rule can be found here.
What if the link doesn't work?
- The post can usually be found on the top r/headphones, and titled Shopping, Setup, and Technical Help Desk.

Utopia, LCD-5, Susvara, Abyss - anything in the top bracket. Shangri la Jr, 007, 009s within $900 - $2000. No experience with estats, so I'm assuming these estats are top bracket and exist mano a mano with the dynamics and planars.
